Yes. There's an even easier way that requires no scripts.
Open up the vehicle tag in guerilla, and scroll down to seats. Under "driver", scroll down to built-in gunner, or something like that. Set the grunt actor variant, and you're set.

I thought that was for the firing, and it takes over the ai that gets in the gun...

No... it spawns the vehicle with an AI already in that vehicle.

Under "Parts", there's some drop box somewhere. Set it to "vehicle". Next to that drop box, there's a blank where you specify a directory. Specify the directory of the vehicle.
