I know this is my third post on basic topics, but is there a way to use GIMP to make custom ammo meters? I downloaded the Photoshop trial, but I don't have the money to get it when that expires. So is there any way to do it in GIMP?

Same way as you do it in Photoshop. Just follow the ammo meter tutorial.
