Why is the maps Extinction, Coldsnap and Hugeass always in the most downloaded list every month. I know they're good maps, but unless there are that many new people buying Halo PC every month I can only assume that people redownloading them for some reason. Infact, Halo Custom edition and HEK is in the most downloaded too every month, that dosn't make sence either.

Does it really matter? This has been asked before. You have lots of people downloading HEK because they want to make maps. Not everyone needs to ask how to make a map on the forum. Some are smart enough to do their research. As for the maps it's most likely the new comers. The only reason to redownload is because your PC was messed up and you had to do a restore. Or you just deleted them. There isn't going to be a positive answer to either question.

The game is growing. Or rather, its population is equalizing. I mean, the same people don't stay in the community forever, just like there are generations in real life, there is a constant stream of new people, and the many downloads of these fundamentals is one of the telltale signs our game is not dying out. Also, those big noob maps are what draws people to CE initially, then they see the actual beauty in the game and learn. However, I think what draws people most to the game is those YouTube videos of pelicans and shotguns that shoot rockets.

wow, that's exactly why I joined, ha. But yeah, I just recently was looking for some new maps, specifically maps with more than 20,000 downloads so people would be playing, and I downloaded Mystic and was simply amazed. The problem is that no one plays it, sometimes some people, but you'll never have a full map (which is what I prefer, big battles). There may seem be new people every week, but there still isn't enough to give the dozens of good maps on here justice.

The only reason why extinction and coldsnap are most played is because they either have custom everything and/or the map is big and people think the bigger the map the more fun it is

I only mod large maps since my goal is to create epic battle themes. I love large maps since they take some time to explore.

Hay! I just found this map called Downflow, it's better than coldsnap, extinction, hugeass and all those big ass maps put together. It got all the same weapons, but the atmosphere is just increadable and the map is much more dynamic than the big empty box the other maps are; also it got some inovative vehicles.
What's wrong with this map that makes it not be played as much as the others? And is there any way you can "advertise" or something to get an old map back in style?

Makes me wonder why there are like, 2000 maps and only 30 people in the servers at any given time.

I get the feeling that out of the 150 maps I downloaded, I missed the one that people actually play....not counting the craptastic top 3.

The reason i joined was because it was a downloadable game. Then i realised that custom maps were a beautiful thing , and way better and more worth getting then buying a games console. IMO. Also , sleepy , there are different versions of the game , 1.06 , 1.07 and 1.08.
Most of the players are on 1.06 , which is a cracked/pirated version , and at any given time , there are like 1300 players there. The legal version only has 200 or so at max.

I know what Cocain's talking about. I'm ashamed to say :P but I downloaded the cracked version on my old computer to test my maps over LAN, but like he said, it has a different version and it wouldn't work. Also once you download the cracked version you can't play the original version, I found that out when I decided to get the cracked version on both computers to play with my friend over the internet on both computers and it did work AND it did support Halo Custom Edition.... but the only maps I saw being played out of the hundreads of servers were coldsnap and hugeass, I had a better chance of having my maps being played if I went back to toaday's 1.08 version, cause that was the point of me buying Halo CE in the first place, to make maps. In the end I did the right thing and bought a second game.

So don't support the cracked version, crack is bad. You'll get the same experience if you play the multiplayer from the original game, cause that one still has around 600 players at a time.

I have to use it to play my brother, but normally i'll use the proper game. I don't have any problems using both. Anyway, no more talk 'bout illegal stuff.

version changer...pshh...there's a patch that switches it just fine by itself. checked it last night there were 450 ppl on. not huge but better than what i'm used to...but exactly what i'd expect from a cracked version...it's almost all stock maps (minus coldsnap >:() so my guess is folks are using it just to play regular halo mp instead of buying PC...which is gay gay gay. i got my copy for ten dollars lol.

now to switch back to 1.08.

vmt, that's cause your playing the original game's multiplayer, were talking about the Halo Custom Edtion's multiplayer which has about 50 to 80 at a time.

What they need to do is get rid of all the versions and make a 1.09 version where the Halo Custom Editon multiplayer is combined with the normal one, so there would probably be about 3,000 people on at a time and all of them would be able to play custom maps. Also with the automatic update, there should be a small selection of popular custom maps that get automatically downloaded for you, to encourage people to go online and download more.

Or they could just make Halo free for download....
