This tool is essentialy the key to enabling all games to be played on one platform. Unfortunatly this only works for PC titles (hopefully they'll upen it up a bit.). However, thats a good thing. Because if OnLive is a success, and only does PC titles (also, oOnLive is gonna be cheaper than a Wii), the consoles will become obsolete! Thus developers will start making games only for the PC, and all xbox 360 and ps3 games will be ported over to the OnLive network! (Wii might survive). Microsoft will quite gaming (it should) and sony will go back to making headphones. rofl

Basicaly, you buy the game online, and to play it, it accesses a local server that plays the game based on your commands, and resends you live feed of your gameplay. Thus, you can have the crappyest laptop ever, you can still play Crysis as long as you have a decent enternet connection. This also solves the LAG issues on multiplayer because the onlything going back to users are video and command. Everything is taken care of by servers. AMAZING!!!

So you just need a good internet. Its anti cheat, no lag, always good preformance. But requires internet all the time... No custom content, no true privacy.

Wow, it's basically a wireless controller that plays a game from a total different location. They run the game at their servers and you see what your doing on your TV or Monitor. Very interesting, makes me wonder how this will affect the consoles. Depending on the cost I'll buy it at launch.

Most probably the "feed" you get back from the server would be video.
Though latency would most probably be increased alittle since it has to send information to the server, processed and back.

I wonder you can rip from the games models now that it's being played on the computer.

You can't, you don't have any file of the game on your PC. Your playing the game on their servers. You pay to play the game but you don't physically have it. Which is why you need to have a good connection. If you didn't you would lag while playing the game. Think of yourself playing your Xbox from a different room with a wireless controller, just a larger distance and over the internet.

Yeah, its like you're controlling an xbox or pc, thats like a 100 miles away, and its filmed and sent to your screen, with extremely high speed (if you have a good connection), so it looks like you're playing it live. Their PC's are very high quality, which means that you dont have to care about your PC rig, because their PC's will handle it all.

And how would they put an editing kit on a game when you don't even actually have the files for it?

for modding, im sure they'll devise a way to upload mods. In fact, you may even able to play the mods withought having to spend 1-2 hours downloading them. No ripping, and no piracy. PC gaming could become mainstream soon!

Eh my internet is about 80 kilbytes a second when i am downloading something. But if i go to http://speedtest.net/ it says i have about 650kbps, why is that?
Why can't i download at that speed? GAH!

I was confused about those tests too, until I found out there's a difference between "kb" and "KB". The lowercase "kb" means kilobits/second, and the uppercase "KB" means kilobytes/second. One byte = 8 bits. So in your case, 80 KB/s times 8 bits/byte = 640 kb/s, near 650, meaning the speed test was right.

Never once did it say Microsoft Game Studios was participating. Considering this could kill the xbox, I highly doubt Microsoft will go with the flow. Ubi soft is on there, that means Crisis :O And maybe Gears :) So, I'm gonna keep an eye on this, and I'll suggest this if it's a good deal. You're basically renting the game, I don't know what the rates are, but it better be pretty cheap.

Interesting. I am sure you have to pay for this service, I do not see the publishers wanting their games to be played for free from another party.

I got about 4,000 kbs.

Anyway, rent/buy game+$3 per month = max, 36+60= 96 a month with the game. I hope it's no more than 3 dollars. I mean seriously, you're buying the game as well.

Hm, things like this will help make the gaming industry more uniform, rather than spread out. Means bad news for Nintendo and Sony though.

I'm not sure about my connection, too lazy to check at the moment, but I don't think I'd be able to really use this. It does not catch my attention much though, other than the fact that it seems somewhat revolutionary.

it seems like a good idea at first, but when you start thinking about things like saves, people hacking into the main server, people hammering the main server, and so on, there are some major flaws to this idea.
