What do you think of this map?

I thought it was really fun. Simple, yes, but that made it fun. It also runs smoothly, and the environment gives you more freedom of movements. I really enjoyed it.

Too difficult, I used dev to beat, no objective markers makes getting lost commonplace and is very inconvenient, and for being two islands, they should have used boats at least a little. It did run smoothly, but heck, all maps seem to run smoothly on my computer. I liked how they did that BSP swap for the underwater bridge, it was a great idea (except that the bridge BSP is used so much I identified it immediately).

Since it is on the home page a featured item you can tell I liked it. It was a clever use of the Island Hop level by Tiamat (http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=384) and the story was simple but inviting: save the captain.

There weren’t massive screen lagging AI encounters but they were hard enough to be enjoyable. It took me longer to get the maps up that day because I stopped to play thru this level.

It wasn't difficult at all, but I can imagine it being much more difficult to do on Legendary. I didn't die once; there's enough places to take cover, and enough health packs and weapons lying around so that you can rest and refill after taking on a large encounter.

why didn't Echo 419 just pick him up? She sure as hell found her way there when I got the commander, even though he was a captain.

Well I only died 6 times and it sucked it was over so quick. I finally came to appreciate the Plasma guns, and melee. I took down a Zealot that had a sword by only using melee attacks.

Very fun. Though it could have been longer.

The pistol made me mad since its my favorite gun and I kept loosing ammo so fast.

BTW What does that crystal and all those Needler spawn points have to do with anything?

You're wrong - on both counts.

The NATO phonetic alphabet is used to designate companies.

Covenant defenses.

Crystal? Needler ammo?

Well the needlers are there to give you some weapon choice.

It was a good attempt to turn it into a single player level, but ultimately there just wasn't enough action. I felt myself walking around the islands too much, only to be engaged in a battle in the same place it was on the other island. Those battles were simple enough, especially when it didn't give much variety the second time through because you're tempted to just take one of the many snipers at your disposal and lay waste to the Covenant in front of you.

The only part I really liked was the underwater bridge, though I went through that rather quickly. It seems like the maker spent some attention to detail there, with a decent copy of the AotCR Bridge Battle and the Zealot. It was only too easy to stick him while throwing frags or meleeing grunts out of the way. The falling water underwater was a nice touch though, even if it made no sense.

All in all, it was enjoyable, but it needs more variety in the battles. I'd also like it better if the level geometry was more interesting. Right now it's sort of just Death Island style with a few rocks and trees scattered around the beaches, with most of the trees being on top of the island where you only look just to chuck a simple plasma grenade at any threatening turret. I applaud the effort, but it just failed to give me a challenge. I don't know how you people need dev to beat it.

Many people need 4 players to beat Halo 3 legendary, so I'm not surprised people need dev here.

I couldn't run the map fro some reason. Whenever I put in map_name island_paradox it wouldn't play the game.

I like Island Paradox. Its the sort of map that's crafted just right to be fun. Though it was formatted rather simply, the encounters were good, and I liked the classic stuff as a relief to all the custom things that we see so often nowadays. Personally, I would like it if the creator (Wolf Grave) could have made it longer somehow.

What I did not like about this map was the utter simplicity of its layout. Though perhaps intended, the level had too little of a story, too few enemies to keep me entertained.
