Lol.. COD4MT is a joke.. Never released a map.. Good job there no nothing about the teams.

We protect or maps for simple reasons. No one wants to see their good weapons, in mods that are bad. If you really care so much about the tags, then you can see that CMT has released tags already. Their SMG, Brutes etc..

I quit and I was co leader. So no, we aren't doing anymore. That map sucked horribly and I say it again, we are not doing anything else about it or any other map.

People (or teams, in this case), lock their maps, because they want people to "use" their items, but not "have" their item, its a form of greediness.

I know Helipad Studios released a map that was locked, but we did because Cody did not want the Coronet, Tow Truck, or Ranger to be used in other peoples maps, it was just something we designed for personal fun, but I convinced him to release a map with em on it.

(We did not have permission to release the coronet model, so that's another reason we locked it.)

We did release the GTA Conversion Tags though, more to come, but its pending on Cody's schedule, school comes first, Halo comes after homework.

Just be nice, and everyone unlock your stuff, and release it, there is no "real" reason to lock it, let others create modifications, its the first step to being a map designer. (In most cases).

There's also other reasons, like hek+ doesn't rip globals and ui correctly so by ripping say one of cmt's maps and everything overwriting, your entire tags folder would basically be destroyed with corrupt tags.

Ouch.
I thought it didn't extract the monitor and scorpion tags right. And isn't there an updated version? That can leave certain tag classes unprotected.

Ask any CMT member if they can rip from an nonprotected CMT map without screwing up their tagset.

Zangfei go back to MGM stop begging for tags please no one is going to do it besides those tags suck because it was a beta :| So now.... GTFO theres a reason why creators/mapping team protect the map and still you fail to understand what it is. They do not want other people using them. They only want to see them in their maps THEY made!!!!

Honestl, you guys may think I'm greedy, but I protect my stuff because it is MINE. You don't leave you door unlocked when you sleep do you? So why would I leave my tags unprotected? It's the same basic concept. I don't want people to have my things because they are valuable to me and I don't want them thrown in a crappy mod especially if the creator is not going to credit the right people.

Selfish there much? All I see is ME and ME. Imagine if everything in your house was your tags you made. Now you guys are asking us to leave our doors unlocked.. Tell me, who doesn't lock their door at night? I lock it, protection is the reason. You cannot take what you didn't create or have in the first place. It's simple stuff guys, life lessons.

Yeah, you're so special...people have already figured out how to rip from Zteam's older maps. They don't care much anymore since they are almost 2 years old, I suggest you don't release anything, and let people work it out themselves. It's probably not as hard as people think.

Not protecting your maps can be compared to not locking your front door. I'm sure you don't want some stranger walking into your house and using your Computer. Then stealing it and saying he bought it. Sure the two instances differ dramatically but the concept is the same.

the thing is that you have a copyright over your stuff in your house, while everything compiled though tool goes to microsoft, and you dont have a copy right over them.

The robber will put the computer through a cloning machine and save you a copy first though

If its "Your" stuff, then why release it in maps?

Whats wrong with letting other people use your models? The more they are used, the more popular it is, right?

Un-protecting maps is not easy, I agree, but it is possible.

Their are several ways to unprotect maps, and the one I know of, thats the easiest, is using Notepad.

I am working on a modified version of Notepad, that will allow you to unprotect maps, it will be better for everyone, that I will be giving it out personally, its not done, so don't ask for it at this second. (I might release it on Halomaps, IDK yet?

I DON'T unprotect maps. Because I have enough respect for the creator to know that he/she wanted the tags protected FOR A REASON.

Unprotecting maps doesn't give you a better understanding of hek+'s source code.

Sure there is a copyright but you have to respect the creators work. it's people who fail to make their own maps or model their own weapons that make people with more modeling experience leave the community because their work isn't respected.
