There are only so many jobs in the video game industry...think bigger! It's incredible to design, draw or model a massive building, watch it rise from its foundation, and tell everyone...Hey, I designed that! Then on your lunch hour, you can go blast some Flood!

like i'm currently using 3ds max for somethign in my real live besides
halo ce

I'm using it for my final project to get my education (in the usa i would get a college degree in 3 or 4 months but in holland we have a different educatiion system)

We need to make a business plan for opening a shop

and i'm modeling the shop in 3ds max
to make placing everything in the shop or lay out of the shop easier

it's just a extra skill wich could come in handy in real life

even if your never going to be actually hired for a job using 3d skills

Meh, Halo is a GAME.

I started modding halo because I've watched RvB, enjoyed it, and wanted to do that aswell.
However, RvB did things the standard way, so I wanted to get into modding to make better machinima's. I don't aim for it to be my future job, as I already have a goal for IT anyways, I'm just doing it for FUN FUN FUN!!!
My other skills are: HTML, XHTML, PHP, JAVA, JAVASCRIPT, AJAX, XML, CSS, C++ (a little), 3DS MAX, Gmax, Maya, Movie editing (several projects), I'm a tweaker in my free time aswell as a hacker, don't confuse that with a cracker or gtfo, I work in a hardware shop fixing computers wich I get paid for (a little, I'm still in school) and I have 4 computers and 1 laptop wich I build from scratch, overclocked and OC'd, at school I help the IT manager fix problems on a regular base (100+ computers crash alot)

I could go on and on if you'd like, but I have a VERY broad range to choose from in the IT,
Halo, is just a hobby for me, as I also mod alot of other games like UT3, FEAR 1, Crysis etc etc.

YOU guys should stop using the excuse that you do this for a job, and when people say you suck that you just do this for fun.

The point is, to make stuff FOR FREE as this is A GAME and you all are KIDS wich can't sell this ... as you can't sell halo mods for PROFIT.

Seriously, you think LISP is a real programming language? lol, go set up a health script for the bank that activated a trigger to spawn the director when health=100 or whatever, seriously, nothing in halo is good for your job, wanna put on your CV that you can mod a game? lol, no seriously, stop using it as excuse that halo is good for anything, you do stuff outside of halo and mention that, you use halo to show the stuff off and use it in a certain way but you don't use halo as a tool. Halo is still a GAME and what you do outside of it, noone cares as this is a halo forum and what you do to make things easier for you, is your bussiness.

Plus, GGL you're dutch? never suspected so, lol (psst I'm dutch too)

wow long story

I saw this thread and said to myself that I should lock it immediately because the people in the forum would act out. Then I remembered what a couple of people said to me in private messages and thought maybe I am wrong, maybe there could be an intelligent thoughtful exchange of ideas debated in a considered way free from name calling and specious arguments. To use language you will be sure to understand: NOT!

It is painfully obvious that none of you who posted realize that the base concept of this subject is not just limited to this game. If any of you gave any thought beyond your own narrow self-interest you would realize that the way you want it to be is not the way it really is. That what you thought you owned you really don’t. What you thought was yours really wasn’t. But I guess you will have to find out the hard way.

You all are under the impression that you “own” software products. You don’t. You just license the use of them. You can possess software but you cannot own it. The same goes for the fan creations made for the game. If it is made for or from or has the likeness of Halo then you can’t own it regardless of who created it, you can only possess it. Possession and ownership are two radically different things.

This is a fundamental shift in the original concept of the copyright laws and has become a tenant for all intellectual property law. Although most software companies do not enforce all their licensing rules they can. Those licensing rules could and in some cases have limited the individual’s control over their “creations”. If you don’t believe me then ask Shepard Fairey about the Obama Hope poster and how he is being sued by Associated Press over the likeness from a published photograph. Your failure to understand the issues, usually caused by your failure to discuss them in thoughtful ways, can have serious repercussions in your future endeavors. If you are going to be an artist, modeler, game designer, software programmer or have any creative career then an understanding of these concepts are essential.

I am sure most of you have not read this and are still going to hold on to your misconceptions, which for now is fine, however if any of you actually want to try to debate/discuss the issue instead of case aspersions, name call, spout old internet meme’s like “phail” or post images instead of full thoughts then I will keep this thread open.

However if anyone does case aspersions, name call, spout old internet meme’s like “phail” or post images instead of full thoughts I will ban their account, lock this thread and give up on you guys entirely.

woo big deal, i accidentally said it twice to make my point clear, did you even read the whole post? >.>

Time to unsubscribe, I've told my opinion, it's a game and don't build your frigging future on a single game...

but..

HAVE FUN

that's the whole point of this anyways, you can't and never will make money with halo, whatever you want to discuss with 3ds max future whatever, isn't related to halo and shouldn't be discussed here anyways.

Unsubscribe & Lock, my suggestion to do.
