Probably your firewall or router is blocking the ports for Halo LAN or Hamachi

Honestly, why would you even do that when you have online? Just set a password to the game...

what is hamachi? is it like one of those things that fool games into believing that people are connected via LAN, but the connection is actually through the internet? Quote: --- Original message by: Corvette19 Honestly, why would you even do that when you have online? Essentially a Virtual LAN that creates an encrypted tunnel over a public TCPIP connection and connects two PCs or networks. It can be used for gaming or just connecting two private networks to share data.

Its VLAN which its virtual lan so the ping will still be the SAME Since VLAN is via internet, the time required for the signal to reach the client would still be the same. It does not lower ping.

My connection is the same way. Mainly because you are using a router. Port Froward and make sure the ports allow Halo. Which is port 2302. So you would do 196.162.1.1:2302 in the exception on your router.

i dont care about ping, if i host, i have 0 ping, when he hosts, i get like 200, then its unfair because he is better than me in the first place, and then also gets hosts advantage, im saying, if i can host (again) then itl make it farer because i get hosts advanttage, and whats all ths stuff about port forwarding, it cant be needed because it worked 1s, im just asking, y the hell isnt it working again.

Uh... isn't the host advantage due to ping? You're obviously misunderstanding. He's saying, he's not as good at Halo as his friend. If his friend hosts, his skill + plus host adv. make it unfair; if /HE/ hosts, he gets host adv., countering out his friend's skill. He can't host without LAN using Hamachi. And again, yes, port-forwarding is needed regardless of using Hamachi. All Hamachi does is give you a designated IP address over the internet for your specific computer. Just like how your network assigns you to 192.168.1.97 or something to that extent initially, and your internet IP could be (random example) 75.194.122.274 or something like that; your Network IP is only assigned to you for other people on your network. Your internet IP is assigned to the network as a whole... What Hamachi does, is it gives YOUR computer a designed IP, that expands beyond just other users on your network, but the internet as a whole...Without ports open, your firewall/router is still going to block the connection. Hamachi won't change that. Just go into your router's properties, open the ports, forward them to your computer ("ipconfig /all" in command prompt to figure out which Network IP suffix is yours), then make sure if you have a PC firewall, either to turn it off, or enable exceptions for those ports... [2302 and 2303; unless you changed them in Halo]. If you can't do that? You can't host, period, except on physical LAN connections; that cannot be changed.
