So well, a few weeks ago i was happily playing on 1.08 servers like Abyll's zombies.
But then suddenly one day (For dramatic effect, please say BOOM!) BOOM! BSOD unmountable_boot_volume :(. Did a reformat, reinstalled windows and then install Halo CE again.
But since i did not have the Halo cd ( it went MIA. But i still have the cd key) i only installed Halo CE not Halo combat evolved.
So i ran Haloupdate for Halo CE, updated went into game and join some random server. Each server i joined i got "Invalid CD key"(Btw, im using the same cd key as last time...)Even i can't create my own game without getting "Invalid CD key"
Currently, the closest i am to getting halo on multiplayer is a Dedi server :P Anyone can help? Thanks. Or im stuck playing on 1.00 with Halo version changer... OMG TL TR Edited by jacknme on Feb 21, 2009 at 11:14 PM

I think i found your problem..."I installed just halo CE not halo combat evolved" You need to install halo before CE.

Probably not. I fail to see how not having Halo PC installed would affect Halo CE.

Ok UPDATE: Lucky before i got my BSOD i backuped the game to another parition. Now i just copy/pasted the game from the other parition into this(The cd key on the registry is this intact). Now, hosting a internet works. Unfortunately im now getting "The game has closed down" message when i join a game. I do not have gamespy installed either :(

You don't need gamespy. Try joining a dedicated server (the ones with the little computer icon next to them) and see if it gives the game closed down message for those. It may just be that you had joined some of those games as they were closing.

Not if you downloaded bit by bit. My Halo Custom Edition folder is 8 gb. So? Does this prove anything?
Edit: I've run a test on my old computer. I've installed Halo Custom Edition without Halo PC first installed. I can run LAN games with my other computer. Edited by Gamma927 on Feb 22, 2009 at 01:43 PM

Halo Custom Edition is a standalone game, which means it does not need to use any external resources. You do not need to install Halo pc to play Halo ce.

Quote: --- Original message by: Thatguyoverthar You have to have Halo Combat Evolved installed first because it gets half it's information from the files on the original location if you don't have it installed then your only running on the things your downloading. The game is 1.2 GB's and the Halo Custom edition with the files from the first one is 1.5 GBs, and I think I would have remembered installing a GB off the internet because that would be entirely to long to download. Wrong.

so hey does the phrase "stand-alone" mean anything to anyone? let me give you a hint: its used in the description for halo custom edition. you dont need pc installed to make ce work and thatguyoverthar, the reason halo pc takes up more space than halo ce is because ce doesnt come with the SP maps

Tried joning dedi servers, same result. I'm been thinking about this and coming out with some possible causes: 1. My registry is messed up (again) 2.Halo ce simply doesn't likes me 3.Ports problem? 4. A virus managed to find its way into my computer and decided it just did'nt like Halo ce at all and decided to mess it up. 5. My windows installation was messed up. Impossible causes- 1.Can't be my cd key problem, i even borrowed my friends to try it and it did'nt work. 2. The Halo CE installation is corrupted (got it from halomaps, can't be true i think..)

Before i got BSOD well, Played on supersniper's server, Abyll's zombies server, Extinction map, CMT snow grove map, cmt_v2_fragment map. I don't think its the servers problem though. Most probably its just my registry. One day ill install windows again and try it.

Unmountable boot volume is usually a hard drive problem. I used to have a computer that had a bad IDE controller and the hard drive would turn on and off and give me that blue screen very often. I'd actually suggest a new hard drive, or even a new motherboard.

Well, i dont get the BSOD anymore though. Most probably it was due to creating a new parition. Should have listened the the warning that it could mess up my windows.. UPDATE: WOOT I GOT IT FIXED. It turned out that my PID was corrupted. I found that out when using Halo key recoverer. How i got it corrupted though, i don't know :P Thanks guys.
