i keep getting geometry errors when i apply a ladder material. the only way i can compile the model is to set everything to the same id which is the base color of the model. would this have anything to do with smoothing groups (auto smooth = 70)?

here's the material:
example_tutorial_ladder%^

and why does the ladder apply facing different directions?

also, what's a texture/shader i can use for a porcelain type material?

I get the same error, Take out the %. It should give you no errors with the ladder anymore, except you can see through the black parts of the ladder bitmap :|

Did you make shaders for it?

It's spelled "caret", to note; not to be confused with carat, karat, or carrot.

Also, you should have created the .shader_environment yourself, and had you done so, there wouldn't have been a caret in it in the first place.
If the shader was made automatically via Tool, then last I've ever checked, it won't display in-game (or in Sapien). You have to make it yourself...

haha, thanks for the spelling lesson. tool made the shader name that way so i made a new one in guerilla but it still doesn't work..in fact..since i did that the whole model causes exceptions in sapien.

i can't figure out why none of this is working but after watching the 'creating custom scenery' tutorial...he never uses a shader or creates one.

I seldomly actually give my ladders their own bitmaps or anything. I just choose one polygon I want to have the ladder's physics, and just give it the same shader & bitmaps as the other polygons of it's type, but change it's Material ID to have a ^ on the end...

I don't really like ladders that much anyway. I've started implementing ramps and gravlifts [repeatedly going through numerous methods to get it to work perfectly, so far, nothing's /perfect/, but some of them work; there's a reason Halo 2 and Halo 3 had gravlifts, instead of ladders.]

the surface is climbable so that much worked...it just not visible. a ladder is what it really needs because it's a small space

here's pretty much the same problem i posted in another thread with pics
