I've restarted making a map I gave up on a year ago. Basically it's an RP map (I already feel the hate mail coming in.) I'm thinking of other ways to were people can play it for fun other than RPing though. Right now I'm working on the buildings, nothing special to them very basic, my modeling skills aren't that great I'm basically self taught.

I'm still thinking of a map layout, but I do have a size. Which is subject to change very easily. So the basic point I'm getting at is this... I didn't like the way some of the RP maps were laid out or the fact that about 3/4's of the RP maps were exactly the same (obviously). So I decided to take matters into my own hands and make an RP map that people want, I've already had a bunch of people give me crazy impossible ideas to realistic ideas.

I'm interested if anyone would like to partake in making this map, being that I'm sixteen still in high school and I can't stay home and work on this everyday, and that my modeling abilities are not that great. I still work on it when I can but it will be a while before anyone sees any of it playable. Also when I can I get some pictures out.

This is one of the buildings I'm working for the map.

This is the top-front of the building, I know it doesn't have a roof yet but I'm slowly getting there.

This is just the top showing the second floor that I have put in but I don't know if it will work.

Now this was a weird one when I started rendering it, for some reason the (middle red circle) was blacked like that, so I thought to flip in. When I went to render it though I could see right through the second story.

Now with that second red circle is concerning me because it crosses over the ramp at that part, and I dunno if I'll get errors or not on it.

If interested contact me through a Private Message or contact me through Xfire Either try CAptDumb or ha10guru.

Role Playing map. For like pretending stuff and war games or real-life simulation (with houses, cars, money, police). It's fun.

The pictures in the first post are just buildings I'm going to add to the map.

Also the poly count is 8,454 I think the limit was near the 50,000 range or a bit more. So I heard.

If you want everyone to lag. MP maps are under 20,000.

I'm still safe I threw in some of the other stuff I have and it barely breaks 15,000 polys.

I've been at it for a few hours now this is what I have so far. But just so you all know my texturing abilities are the worst ever. But I gave the map textures just to give color, no none of it is permanent. I'll need to find someone who knows how to texture when the time comes. So here is a picture of what I have (subject to change.)

ok im going to post this one. more. time. ok everybody?
halo 1 came out in 2001. the bsp for the inside of the truth and reconciliation was close to 350,000 triangles. it was portaled, but bear in mind that this ran almost seamlessly on hardware from 2001.
halo pc came out in 2004. im pretty sure everything remained intact from the original besides the flamer and plasma cannon in mp maps.
it is now the beginning of 2009.
do you think that technology has gotten somewhat better since 2001? i think so.
let me put it this way: i have an nvidea 7600 graphics card, 2 gigs of ram, a 1.66 Ghz duel core processor, and im on a laptop. with this, i put 3 9000 triangle turrets onto the top of the blue base in grove final. in front of the base i put 2 stock warthogs and a stock ghost. inside the base i put around 20 custom weapons, all ranging from 2000 tris to 4000 tris. i could look at all of those guns at once with no frame rate hit whatsoever. turrets + vehicles = around 26k triangles. weapons = around 30k-35k triangles.
do not tell me that the "limit" for multiplayer maps is 20,000 tris.
with my computer, if you portalled the map properly, you could put 500,000 tris, maybe 600,000 in the map and have it run smoothly on my computer. if truth and reconciliation's indoor bsp is 350,000 tris and it runs fine on an xbox from 2001, i think a map with portals with around 500,000 tris will run fine on my computer.

for you lazy people: this is 2009. technology in 2009 > technology from 2001

oh and um, there is no set limit for triangles in a map. so dont throw terms around like "set limits" until you know what you are talking about

Good point with the "it's the beginning of 2009 when Halo came out in 2001" I think even I should know this even when I'm trying to become a computer engineer. I just feel stupid (oh the irony.)
I'm not sure if I understand what you mean by "portalled" I could be wrong.

Yeah, it is only what I did all in a course of a day. Also what would that "something" be at the edges?

I suggest how to model properly.. Check out this tutorial - http://www.moddb.com/tutorials/beretta-9000-video-tutorial

The first video is corrupt, check the forums for the fix. Once you have that concept down, check out ill duce primos youtube tutorial. Heres the link- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3J3Dqt_cpA.
