Well, if you were running Windows Vista, I could easily tell you how to back up your information without having to boot Windows.

Well you could try my Vista cure. Insert the CD. Then boot from CD. When it goes to the install screen, click on repair. It should begin looking for previous Windows installations. Once it's done, click the button on the bottom. I can't remember what it is, but it might be browse. Once the window pops up, make sure your USB is plugged in. Otherwise you have to restart the process. Then, the window pops up, and tells you to find the previous installation or whatever it is. Instead, find the Halo Custom Edition folder, copy it, and paste it onto your USB. It won't show a progress meter, so wait an hour or so to make sure all files are copied. Enjoy! I'm not sure what will happen if the Hard Drive is corrupted, but it should work. Also, why can't you do system restore?

You don't need to log in. Did you even try my method? Boot from CD, BEFORE you boot Windows.

That sounds like the Antivirus 2009 virus. It's a fake virus scanner, been going around the internet for a while. A new variant (or two, or three) comes out every year.

The two computers that I dealt with that were infected with it were fixed with Spybot Search & Destroy.

From the sounds of it, you got it real bad. The worst I saw out of it was not being able to access the Task Manager using Ctrl+Alt+Del.

Only way you're fixing that is by doing what Gamma said.

I am a computer expert, i even teach some people at school regulary =P

so, let's start: the windows CD looks like a light blue CD with alot of glimmer on it, MS likes glimmer

start your computer from the CD, just keep it in the drive and start the cd when it asks to start from it

then a blue setup screen comes up

when it stops loading drivers, just install like you want a new one

it will say you can repair the windows you already have, do that

it will repair all your windows files and leave your files that were added later on, so it will just replace all your windows files

MEANS THAT IT WILL MAKE THE VIRUS INACTIVE, NOT REMOVE IT, SO DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING AFTER REINSTALLING BEFORE YOU KNOW YOU HAVE REMOVED THE VIRUS

if you need more help, give me your msn, or xfire, because there are also easy methods that are not allowed to be named here...
( I don't even teach those at my school )

but since you really need it, i can make an exception =P

You could always make a CD that you can run windows XP off of. Google up 'BartPE'. its mainly ment for fixing viruses on your PC, but it does boot windows XP (and aperntly there is a vista version now to) off the disk (main thing loL) and then you can copy things from your HD, or just run your computer off the CD if you really want to... (dont see why you would)

If you manage to boot your laptop again then i suggest a scan and clean with "Malware Bytes", it will fix your problems most likely.

My way won't remove anything. It doesn't fix anything. All it does is back up your files.

Ok. You know how when if you could open windows, and when you browse for something, there's all these folders and stuff? And you can view the files and everything, and drag them around? Well, that's what my method does.

In a nutshell, yes.

Well, make sure you have the files. It usually looks like a half black / blue / orange CD (for Dell computers). If you don't have Dell, I can't help you.

Step 1: Insert the Windows Boot Disk into the PC.

Step 2: Press F11 to enter system recovery. When you go in there, you are going to want to go back to a date where you "DONT" have Antivirus 2009. Then system Restore [You can also boot from your external hard drive/Partition]

Step 3: Let that run for a while, go have a drink, go down to the pub, do w/e until its done.

Step 4: When Windows boots up, it should let you go to the login screen.

IF THAT DOESNT WORK... Then you might have to go back into the System Restore [F11] and "Restore Factory Settings".

If the only thing you can beat is a 3 yr old that is pretty sad, anyways, when you get your Charger back up, look in your PM's.

I have a USB version I downloaded, but I gotta upload it to megaupload without the ISO since giving the ISO around would be illegal, and we dont want dennis raging about lol.

Id suggest you use a school computer to run the programs to write the ISO onto the USB since ive yet to try em, even though I got them off a site I trust. (cause you can never be to safe :P)

K, uploaded http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RSIC70HL all files except the ISO (so the files to patch it on the USB)

Or download the Windows 7 Beta, and use the ISO provided (It's legal!). Of course, if you don't want to upgrade your computer, then try to extract the ISO from the CD that you have, and mount it onto an USB.
