Ok... I've tried desperately to do it on my own many times, but I've failed epicly everytime. Now I want to try again. I'm going to ask first though, because I'm getting the feeling I'm wasting my time.

Is it possible to take a random Halo CE map, and edit it using only tool, sapien, guerilla, and that extracting thing (I forgot what its called. Well basicly, what I'm asking is not if it's possible for me to make a map with only these programs, but to edit another map already made. Can you add new weapons and vehicles (not make them) already made by someone else to maps (not make them) also already made by someone else by using any of these files.

And if not, is there any free program on the internet I can use?

Please help =(

"The release of maps made in this process, or mod's, are generally frowned upon in the community, and should be done for personal enjoyment or between friends. To be honest the last thing this site needs is another mod uploaded to it."

Thats what its for.

So I dont need 3ds Max or anything?

The program here called HEK+ will extract .scenarios and the tags for any unprotected map file into it's appropriate folder. This scenario file can be opened in sapien to add new vehicles/scenery/weapons, the tag's properties can be modified in gurilla, and the whole .map could be recompiled into a new map file.

ftfy. Tool++ is a GUI for the tool.exe, best for beginners, however I use the normal tool.exe ran from command prompt.

Also no you do not need 3ds Max or gmax if all you want to do is mod other maps.

just get hek+. extracting should be easy to understand. but remember: scripts wont extract. from there, use hek with the new sceario just like any other scenario.

Are you talking about that you want to mod maps, not make them?

You can extract the tags from any of the single-player maps using HEK+, then in Guerilla create a .scenario tag using one of the single-player bsps. Or if you were trying to create a single-player map you can do that as well, just change the map type at the top of the scenario tag in Guerilla to solo.

Thanks guys.

EvilKivin, I'll see if I can get my Xfire to work

Black doom, thx, Another thing. Is there any reason for maps such as bloodgulch or gephyrobia not to extract fully?

no unless you forgot to exctract all of the files. but beware:

never overwrite tags unless its a corrupted one (and only that one)
AI grenade stats are not extracted correctly.
big maps (like coldsnap and hugeass) need toll pro to export and known to go bugged when modded.

to extract in HEK+, just open a map that is unprotected, then right-click on a blank space in the "tag explorer" and then click select all, then right click on a folder(which will be all the folders since you selected all the folders) and then click add to extraction queue and then you can click start and extract all the tags from a map(and save the txt file, if you checked Save Extracted Tag List).
But 1 thing, make sure that HEK+ doesn't Overwrite existing tags for it may not be 100% accurate in different maps.

they do extract right, but hek+ always messes up, try these

also to allow ai to throw grenades, you must open the .actor varient tag in mon- ci- guerilla and go to the greandes section, then change the grenade velocity to 6

was that really necessary?
