Exactly what it means.

YOu typed the wrong address.

Where is your folder with your .jms file inside it?

it should be data\levels\test\mapname\models

OR

data\levels\mapname\models

then, the tool command is

tool structure levels\test\mapname mapname

thanks but now it says:
"choose a type of shader for the mtl #
1. shader_environment
2. shader_model
3. shader_transparent_generic
4. shader_transparent_chicago
5. shader_transparent_chicago_extended
6. shader_transparent_water
7. shader_transparent_glass
8. shader_transparent_meter
9. shader_transparent_plasma
choice <1-9>: "
any idea which I should choose?

Compile (if you hadn't already) and find your bitmaps that are for your map. Insert it/those into the slot in the shader that says bitmap or whatever it's called.

well i dont want to explain it but i used these tutorails to make my first map and it worked

http://www.h2ek.com/resources/hce-tutorials/index.html - the first 9 tutorails are on basic map making

the one that covers how to edit your level's shader is number 7 "Compiling the Scenario with Tool"

Just for the record, you are typing your map's name, not mapname, right?

That failed.

What did you type?

it should be tool lightmaps levels\mapname\mapname mapname mapname\0 .9

I think...keep trying variations

The command is:

tool lightmaps levels\mapname\mapname mapname 0 0.9

that should work (i think after you open it up in saphien you must save radiosity...)

if you do... the command in saphien is radiosity_save

Don't have to, it creates the bitmap for you.
