Does it cause more lag with stuff various senery actually on the BSP, or to just put in scenery in sapien?

It's a lot more work to make it the BSP because you have to import the model and make sure you keep the uv coordinates while attaching them. If you don't attach them but instead juts link the object it will create collision errors with projectiles. In the long run it is better to make it a part of the BSP because you wont have problems with explosions as you do with scenery. If it's a base hands down make it BSP.

lag of this type is usually because of the amount of polies your computer has to render, but it also depends on the amount of stuff it has to load. Puting scenery in the BSP gives it shadow interaction and the ability to have bullets and rockets give it bullet marks and scorches, respectively. Scenery on the other hand is movable and is easier to put in, seeing as how you only have to model it once.

EDIT: Dang, beaten to it.

Ok like Duce said about the Cordinates and stuff I dont care about but adding them to the BSP increases your triangle count and your gonna wanna portal the map even more.

It's just that once it's on the BSP. It makes the BSP harder to work with. If you accidently move one of the verts and mess up the skin. You can't fix that. It makes it harder if you want to move the rocks around. Explain what you want to add to the BSP and we can tell you if it's worth doing.

EDIT: Portals are planes going through your BSP that tell the engine what to render to optimise the performance. So if your not looking at that one part of the map, the engine wont render it. The less the engine has to render at a time the better the performance will be.

No I don't want to add anything. It's just that a friend said I you made a city level, and you made all the buildings as scenery. He siad it would decreese the lag.

It wouldn'T decrease it. Also, chances are that while it'S fine for host, clients have more lag issues with Scenery and sometimes will get ''Bumpy'' in them(likwe when walking over rocks on some maps) so BSP on that side will be much better.

Plus you will have the use of shader_environments on them so they will look better.

I'd rather go without than take what you'd bring.

A city level with all scenery buildings?

/facepalm

NO!

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!

That won't decrease lag, it will INCREASE it for clients playing the game, AND it will also cause BAD VIDEO LAG due to nothing being able to be portalled off! ALWAYS USE BSP for this kind of job!

Why do you think RPG_Beta4-4 is so damn choppy when you view too much scenery? GAHD!

this is a frame rate issue, not lag. lag is the delay you get when playing ce online. mistaking frame rate for lag is kinda like referring to a triangle as a polygon

Well you could just detach those polygons then reatch them to the skybox
