First I would like to begin by saying that this release of my mod is to gauge the community's reaction to a mod of this type. With that said, Ill provide a little back-story into the creation of the mod. When I first played HCE I downloaded as many maps as I could onto my hard drive. Of that large archive of maps this map http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=438 stood out to me. When I first played it online I was immediately reminded of LAN parties on the Xbox during which we played furious games of slappers only on Prisoner. However some aspects of the map grabbed my attention as areas that could be improved upon such as throwing rocks and melee weapons that did not seem to have any unique difference. Now after all of this jabber I have reached the important part. Halo: Duel Edition provides the player with multiple tools for dispatching their opponents.
The Dagger:

Damage: Weak
Dodge: Excellent
Description: A comparatively weak weapon, but bypasses enemy’s armor to deliver damage directly to the enemy’s health.
Mithrodin Blade:

Damage: Moderate
Dodge: Moderate
Description: Delivers a critical blow to foes with their armor depleted, but lacks the ability to effectively deplete a foe’s armor.
Bringer:

Damage: Moderate
Dodge: Moderate
Description: Delivers a critical blow to foes armor, but lacks the ability to effectively deplete a foe’s health.
Cleaver:

Damage: Considerable
Dodge: None
Description: Has no dodge, but delivers consistent damage.

Axe:

Damage: Considerable
Dodge: None
Description: Has no Dodge and cannot cast, but has charging bonus.
Calibur:

Damage: Considerable
Dodge: None
Description: Has no dodge and cannot cast, but foes whom the melee hits are knocked back.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alright those are the melee weapons, now for the ranged.

Crossbow:

Damage: Considerable
Description: Provides a devastating shot, but is difficult to aim.
Fireball:

Damage: Weak->Considerable
Description: Direct hits provide the optimum amount of damage.
Will-0-Wisp:

Damage: Considerable
Description: Can cause instant death if the head is struck, and cause the foe to become temporarily stunned.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally here is the beta dl link and a link to short vid. Enjoy and please leave feedback.

hes aiming for essentially a castel v2 map; it will be mostly melee with the 'spells' as grenades and the crossbow, i warn you that the crossbow should be weaker or...more balanced really than castel's crossbow, it did alot of damage which is really ok, but for people trying to melee it causes a bit of grief

(i know its castle but the older map uses castel)

The crossbow is balanced by the skill and timing required in aiming it. I initially was against putting it in but it serves a purpose. The map is not configured for gametypes other than slayer.

that definatly has my download. i always loved that map. now its better. i like how you evened out the crossbow. and plz explain the ''dodge'' thing.

Edit: ok i dled the beta, thats cool. i like the dodge thing. i wanna play that online. also that would be fun in 3rd person. the bow is a lot more balenced. the bow was always so cheap. also i think you should make multiple maps. nice job.

I tried to make a map like this, but I was a noob at the time. This, however, is a very good job. I hope you continue it.

The dodge replaces the weapons fire, so when you click to shoot instead you are pushed backward. If you are charging forward it does not work as effectively. The dodge works best when you are standing still or retreating backward. The dodge can also be used as a second jump.

The charging bonus on the axe means that it can deliver a one shot kill if the player is jumping forward at their opponent when the melee is delivered.

The melee system in halo is fairly simple. When a player is standing still or retreating the minimum damage is dealt. If the player is moving forward the medium amount of damage is dealt. If the player is in the air while moving forward the maximum is dealt.

i already subconciously knew about the different melee damages but i never actually thought about it, having been a melee monkey for a while ive learnt the different methods; but of course when u have something like a spiker, those rules get thrown out of the window xP

Yeah the axe used to be one hit kill, but that made all of the other weapons obsolete.

It's easier to see in halo 2 when you have a flag on you. stand still and hit a person, let his shields recharge, and then jump and hit him while in the air.

What if each team spawned in a small room for each player, inside a trigger volume, and had 20 seconds to choose their "class": wizard, knight, axeman, paladin, bowman, etc., and then spawned into the battlefield?
And have horse vehicles, with a second seat behind for a bowman?

By that I meant with weapons. Wizards would have magic spells, bowman would have crossbow, knight would have sword, etc.

Of course. Everything in gm_flatgrass needs to be spawned. You use castle wars or whatever it's called.
