First of all, program files (x86) is only for windows 7. I'm using Windows XP Professional, where there is only a Program Files folder. So I change it so that in the target box, I've got "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\haloceded.exe -port 2304" but when I click OK they say the name specified there is not valid. why

You need to have it like this in the target field.

OK. I did that, and now, when I try to join by direct IP, I get a message saying my client is older than the server. How can I fix this?

I dunno, i own a copy of halo pc.

If it was not cracked, how would I fix it? I have 2 copies of Custom Edition: one torrented, one installed with a key gen.

Here's a fix.

1. Save $2 a day. In 2 weeks you'll have about $28 (exactly if you can keep it up all through the 2 weeks.)
2. Go to your nearest game shop and buy a copy of Halo Combat Evolved. (IF YOU ALREADY HAVE BOUGHT IT YOU CAN SKIP STEPS 1 AND 2.)
3. Install Halo Combat Evolved.
4. Download the Halo Custom Edition installer from this website, and install.
