I just got gmax in wanting to be able to make custom maps. I want to start out with a few of my own that I will use privately for myself to learn more about it, but idk how to even start!http://img242.imageshack.us/my.php?image=63465958rm5.jpgmg So, what am I supposed to do to make custom things? I just want to start out with something small and private.

Read a tutorial on how to make a map in gmax, I recommend geogeeks tut.

So now what? I tried to find it under run.
I also just downloaded HEK AND IT DOES NOTHING! All it does is show me a big tutorial and to buy 3ds max. And I downloaded the 270 mb HEK from this website not a tutorial
Almost feeling ready to give up. I just can't ever find file locations when I try to do anything!

*Sigh, one thing that screws everyone up. You do not play HEK, you use the programs. Go to your CE install directory, and there will be 3 new programs in there if you installed it right. They are tool, guerilla, and sapien. Guerilla and Sapien can be run as is, tool must be run through CMD Prompt. If you don't understand DOS at all (why should you? you seem young, DOS was before your time luls) its all command driven. You navigate to your CE folder by typing cd\<hce install location here(default is <program files\microsoft games\halo custom edition> i believe). Instead of 3ds, you can use Gmax, you just follow the tutorials normally, exporting is different though. Download a tutorial from this site that deals with Gmax to figure it out.

His is kind of useless he just does things, doesn't really try to teach it, I click on tessellate 4 times and end up with over 1000 not 512. And I can't zoom into my map floor and rotate it like he did either!

Nvm I just did exactly what he said... but it took 1 hour just for me to be able to do all the steps up to the 512 (tessellate x4). Mapping does seem hard.

Honestly, before you try following a tutorial, mess around in gmax, get a feel for the controls. That will help you.
