Ok I run a dedicated server for the clan I am in on Halo PC. One of the maps I have on there is hugeass (just to make it popular). But the problem was that people kept on coming in, making it night, then leaving. So I realized that there was a hugeass_fixed.map which had a devcode that can make it go back to day. So I renamed the hugeass_fixed.map to hugeass.map placed it in my maps folder replacing the old one and ran my server normal. There was no problems for other joining that did not have the fixed map. So finally someone turns it to night. I enabled alldev by opening it as an administrator (I have vista) then clicked page up to activate it and did the following.
I hit the tilde (~) key and typed in rcon (password) wake (which is the command to turn it back to day in the hugeass fixed map.) But it came up as rcon failed. I had alldev opened on the computer with the server but for some reason it didn't work. So I am basically in need of help on how to use alldev with a dedicated server by using rcon?

Quote: So I renamed the hugeass_fixed.map to hugeass.map placed it in my maps folder replacing the old one and ran my server normal. Never rename a map in an attempt to make it seem like another map. Halo CE checks the entire file on the server and on the client side to make sure they're identical before allowing somebody to join, so renaming the file will do nothing unless they have hugeass_fixed themselves. Also, stick to the regular hugeass if you're going for popularity, because I rarely see hugeass_fixed being played. Dedicated servers don't have devmode enabled. I don't know how to activate it, but if anybody knows of a way to enable devmode for a dedicated server, then please tell him.

The only reason that the hugeass_fixed.map was named that was because there already was a hugeass.map in the Halo CE database and Dennis does not like 2 of the same map. So that is why. It is the same as the normal one and no one has problems connecting to it when it is in my maps folder and they don't. My server is still popular because it is called hugeass.map so that is what shows in the game lobby. Basically all i really need help with is the devmode on a dedicated server. I also tried it in the command prompt window of the dedicated server. Did not work.

Devmode won't work for a dedicated server, neither through rcon in-game or directly through the command console, at least by default. No, hugeass_fixed is not the same as hugeass.map. They must have the exact same data for a player to join. Hugeass_fixed has more scripts in it than hugeass. The only reason why they would work together is maybe because the file check ignores differences in scripting, which I doubt. Also, renaming the file does nothing to it in the game lobby. There is an internal name written into the map, which would still be hugeass_fixed, and that's what shows in the game lobby and the list of maps in-game.

OMG, do you need proof that hugeass_fixed.map is really hugeass.map but renamed so it can go on halomaps.org. Why would I lie about something like this. I renamed it, people can join fine and and it shows up as hugeass on the game lobby I will post pics later just to shut you up about that. You argue about everything. My god.

I renamed it, people can join fine and and it shows up as hugeass on the game lobby I will post pics later just to shut you up about that. You argue about everything. My god. I have more than enough proof that hugeass_fixed is not hugeass: the original sniper rifle is replaced by default sniper rifle, the jets' exit animation is the same as the warthogs', there is no night biped, the longswords can't be destroyed anymore, the original scripts from hugeass.map are replaced with the "fixed" scripts from hugeass_fixed, such as "night", "day", and "kill". If you want proof, load up hugeass_fixed on a hosted server and look for all of the above mentioned. Second of all: I tried exactly as you said. I put only hugeass_fixed in my maps folder. I tried to join a server with hugeass. "Unable to join game." Then, I tried renaming hugeass_fixed to hugeass.map. On the "Halo" screen, I got this: "Fatal error: hugeass.map is corrupt." I can't even change the filename without conflicts! So I changed the internal name AND the filename to hugeass, it worked fine, but when I tried to join a server running hugeass, it said: "unable to join game" again. EDIT: I have no clue now. I re-read your first post and it said that you replaced the original hugeass.map. If people really did join, I believe you, but HOW they joined makes no sense. They had to have hugeass_fixed without knowing it. I just don't understand. Read the paragraphs above for why. I mean, Halo couldn't even LOAD with the renamed hugeass_fixed! Normally, it should be working unless you're typing it wrong, or something else that I could never figure out. On a server, the guy gave me rcon so I could show him how to spawn all the vehicles, but even with alldev on and using rcon, it said it failed. I could still do rcon [password] sv_players though and see that, but dev things didn't work. Dedicated servers can use dev though, because on the P0W (Halo CE League, Ganon's team I was on.) would let me do sv_say and all that, but this server didn't let me. I'll look into it some more later. Edit: Wait, why'd you say 'Halo PC' instead of CE? Yet you're playing on hugeass, which you can't have in PC. Did you mean CE? Don't the [HiV] people use dev on dedicated servers? At least I think so, how else do they teleport people for fun? (Was it HiV?

Yeah but don't they have that private server application made by rec0? Maybe that allows them to use dev in the servers. But does anyone know there website so I can ask them about my question.

Yeah so I was right. And I doubt they would give it to me, heck they don't even know me. Well I guess my dream is dead. If only it was a public app. Thanks for the help guys. Edited by supersniper on Mar 15, 2008 at 11:35 PM
