Gmax is a stripped down version of 3DS Max 5 designed more for custom game content. 3DS Max has a lot more features.

3ds Max offers more modeling tools by far. You can't with gmax even do half of what 3ds max can do. Thats why people using 3ds max usually make better maps cause they simply can do more. To me gmax seems a little too stiped down. But it's all use poor people can use. The trials for 3ds max only last so long.

It is sooo much money because the time it took to create the program and the people need co pay the people that helped make he program
And the difference between the Student copy and the other one is that busineses can pay more then a person still in school
I think they are the same thing

in this thread: people who pirate 3ds max act like they have money.
you can achive great results from gmax if you sit down and learn it. the only way it was stripped in relation to 3ds5 was they took out the rendering capability. other than that it's 3ds 5.

Yeah, you can even rig and animate in gmax, which is excellent! But if you have the money and no good reason to use it, go buy 3DSMax.

Quote: --- Original message by: selentic The rating system is ridiculous. It is suppose to be a guideline NOT a hard fast rule. It is supposed to be used as a point of information to allow the parent or guardian a metric to evaluate if a child should be allowed to play it. It still requires that the parent review the game first and not rely on the rating to make the decision. For example My 12 year old nephew plays the Halo game but his father has forbidden him from playing on-line due to the profanity and abuse. He is not allowed to play Doom, Half-Life, Fear or Quake because his parents feel they are too violent and or scary for him. The rating system should never be a substitute for parenting. M: Blood and gore Violence
Ummm... Just about every game out there involves violence of some manner. Heck, Mario does! As for the "blood and gore", great, you shoot something, and a purple/green/red/blue blob appears at their feet. Sooo bloody. Hooray. Actually, some of the blood sprays and squirts if you look closely, especially when you look at an elite's/jackal's blood that is in the air after you have melee'd them, or you shoot a corpse for fun as you can watch the blood gush out. And you forgot orange blood for hunters... The gore comes mainly from the flood combat forms where you can shoot their arms, heads, and torsos apart. That is SO not gory (and back in Halo's glory days, it looked pretty damn good.) There was also the one scene that brought new meaning to "eat your heart out" (the elite that the marines found dead during the recording on the level 343 Guilty Spark). and @ invalid's post, FEAR scared you? lol. Well some people have different tastes in games I suppose. But I play FEAR Combat, the free multiplayer version of FEAR. I love shooting people in that style of gameplay, complete with blood staining the clothing, aerial scissor kicks, deafening explosions, people who come out of nowhere, corpses spasming out of control, pools of blood, gibs that include simply obliterating the body, blowing it in half, blood spraying where a limb (or two or three... or the HEAD) that is now on the other side of the room used to be that you can kick around, shoot, or whatever and it will make a nice little splat on a surface it hits, being able to move around all sorts of random crap, and all of that good stuff, but mostly I like when you blow someone up and their head ends up inside the ceiling! XD I think I am going to download all the demos for FEAR... ---back on topic... uhh... in general, 3DSMax > Gmax so long as its new or something... or... yeah... ...XD

Actually he loves his parents, is smart as a whip, is well behaved and would never consider an outburst of pure childishness as exhibited above. All in all he is more mature and better behaved than most. I just wish I could spend more time with him but distance precludes it.

Back on topic... I read somewhere that one can render gmax scenes using YafRay. I thought this could be possible, but when I red it was, my face went "=O" and I... forgot it...
I might have to search I suppose but right now I have to leave. :P
edit: DO NOT BOTHER! I just remembered it was at Yayap's site. I will look sometime. Edited by Enzo03 on Jan 23, 2008 at 07:27 PM

By the way... If you want to render 100% for free, you can follow the steps on the below page. It uses GMax, a couple scripts, an app for the listener, and YAFRay. Here is the site: http://www.yayap.com/rendertut.htmlEnjoy.

Edited by MYTHIC_113 on Jan 26, 2008 at 12:40 PM First of all, in what outworldly way does napalm's post have ANY relevance to yours? Or did you simply quote the wrong post? Secondly, it worked perfect for me... but I believe I did NOT download it from the downed site, but a copy of it that is actually on Yayap's site. You can find it on that page. Edit: I would also love to know what swissmaster said loledit: and also: Quote: heh, i know what you mean by being scared to play fear. i know someone who got it for Christmas or something, and he played it for 30 minutes. never was it touched again. >=] I guess I must be gifted for being able to handle such games. I am currently considering downloading the demos for FEAR, as well as the expansion packs, extraction point and perseus mandate (as soon as I can get an external hd because I run out of space on my craptop lol), but I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to get the platinum edition or get a xbox 360 with FEAR 360 edition and FEAR files. Once again, I will emphasize this face: >=] Oh yeah, and the multiplayer community is usually friendlier than most other games from what I have seen :P. (No I am not trying to get people to stop playing Halo CE and mod for FEAR... oops... let that one slip out too :( but really I am just saying I like FEAR. Nothing wrong with that... right? Right?)
