without having to know a bunch of fancy photoshop techniques because:

1. I do not have photoshop. I use GIMP. Laughing? Well I am damned sorry that people only tend to give teenagers crap-minimum-wage jobs that cannot earn the amount of money needed to buy little wants such as photoshop (and much less 3DSMax) without sacrificing... oh... uh... life necessities, especially when I can get a free alternative that is almost, maybe just as powerful, nor do I have rich parents to beg money off of with nothing but a pathetic face and a spoiled lifestyle that is the damnation of the world today. GIMP can make beautiful stuff if one knows what they are doing. (I guess if I could get tricks for that.... then thanks... but... enh..) To sum this rant up, help or stfu.

2. I DO have a Direct X SDK that should work with whatever I could do to... yeah... if it could do anything for it. But I have little knowledge of how to use it (look for a dxtex.txt file for help... no dxtex.txt file to be seen in any folder within the SDK's directory. Wow. Thanks for the help, Microsoft) except to crapify some textures and convert their formats, maybe also make cubemaps but I can that by other means...

Well?

(and no, I am probably not going to try Crowpath's bump-map tutorial unless it is my only option)

why do you need to convert your bump backwards anyway?.. if you wana make it a multiperpose fake bump for HCE, then just start fresh with the origenal texture.

ya, ive converted already existing bumps before, im preaty sure I just left the height settings at 0 for the bump.

you cannot use bumps for bipeds or vehicles or any non-bsp element no matter what kind of shader you assign to it (except maybe if the transparent glass shader is somehow... ugh...)

everyone knows that, but all your telling us is you want the bumpmaps converted back to origenal state, and since your posting here, it hsa to be linked to HCE. How do we know that your MC picture directly releates to you only doing bipeds? it seems alot more like a example since you have the 2 pictures saying what you want done.

Anyways, if your doing multiperpose, listin to what I said in my first post

to make a fake bump from using the multipurpose map u can just edit the origional diffuse texture. correct kirby?

Correct, Maniac. Just do some scribbiling in the red alpha channel with a white brush.

Maybe you can do some texture baking thing with it in 3ds
