Ok I hadn't intended to release this version of my map urban to halomaps as I am still working on getting the bsp correct.

I.E.
1 even playability for both teams
2 general layout of the map
3 types of buildings that could be in there.

I had started a forum at http://forum.halomaps.org/index.cfm%3Fpage=topic&topicID=11764 on this version of the map with a link to where you could upload it.

I AM NOT MAD about the map being released to halomaps just a wee bit brassed off as this is going to be my first major map that I will released when it is finished!

But as it is there so I may as well use it to get feed back so post any comments you have on it good and bad.

Things on the todo list are

1 make a wall around the map with gates that are locked at the end of each road
2 fix the shader for the grass
3 change the smaller buildings "am in the process of changing each one of them into four smaller building with one room in them
4 May make the tunnels wider
any other comments would be cool.

nope. halomaps policy is once it's uploaded it won't be taken off with out a court order. if the map is uploaded, passed the play test it is uploaded and that is final.

If you release a map to the public, they can put it anywhere but if it's protected, they can't do much.

I've got one thing thing to say. Don't give links out in public. Just make a topic, but no links to the map. Just give it to someone you know who wouldn't 'leak' or steal a map.

Why don't shotguns spawn in the bases?

Having heavy weapons spawn in the base is a bad idea. Also the rocket ammo doesn't fit in that cabinet thing so put it somewhere else.

Do what I do (Increased personal security after the whole Archive... thing):
1. Make it only run on CTF until the final. Dennis playtests in slayer, and if it exceptions, it doesn't get uploaded.
2. Put cuss words somewhere in either the map name or when you boot up the map. If Dennis does get it to work in CTF, then he won't upload because of the cuss words.
3. If you can't/don't want to put cuss words, make it so it says something like Unyielding Hierophant Private Beta 1 or something when you load the map (Yes, I chose the name Unyielding Hierophant for a reason, DON'T STEAL MY SECRET MAP'S NAME!).
No, really, don't steal it. Please?

Insetead of doing all this childish stuff why not just be more careful about who you give the map to? Or better yet. Don't let it leave your computer until it is completed.

yeah as dennis said....ALSO protect ur map while its on ur pc....i do it most of the time....cuze u never know, if a hacker gets in ur pc and gets out ur map and leaks it

name the map bloodgulch untill the final build, because dennis wont upload it, and even if other sites have it, it wont function online realy at all, cause everyone will have normal BG

just protect the map, and skrew around with the files so that even if they could go around map protection or anything, they are gonna have alot of trouble

The reason why we don't is because we have to give it to beta testers, who test the map for bugs and give suggestions to make the map better overall. That's why we have betas, so people can test the map for us.
Unfortunately, we can't have any way of monitoring people's computers, the reason for the UMT leak was because Ganon pissed Kid off without informing any of us. Another example would be if we cut out a beta tester because we have too many, they may leak the map out of revenge. We can't tell what people are thinking, since we are not those people, and thus do not share the same brain. We try to give it to a few, trusted, people, but they may betray that trust. Afterwards, we don't give it to them again, and tell others not to. That's how we get rid of the leakers, but occasionally we don't know WHO leaked it, so we can't remove anyone from our "Trusted" list.
Lately, leakers have been getting smarter, using HEK+ to rip the map, then changing the name and uploading to the Halomaps FTP server. This happened with the map "X-Factor" (Really called Sacrosanct), which was uploaded as a public beta, not placed on Halomaps on PURPOSE because it wasn't good enough for public release, but someone downloaded it, ripped it, and then changed the name and uploaded. Then we have the not so much "leaks" but really "False Incriminations" where people make a crappy map (Like UMT Pwnage), say it was made by someone they hate, and then upload it.
A good way to do this (Not sure how willing you are to accept this idea, Dennis) would be to make it so people can DOWNLOAD without logging in, but, in order to upload, they have to log in. Any accounts made on the Halomaps site are also good on the forums (And vice versa), and you can give proper credit to the person who uploaded instead of sticking a ? by the name (Yes, I uploaded a map, wrote an awesome readme, included screenshots, did everything right, and I forgot to list my name once, and I don't want to do it again).
This will also help us weed out the good beta testers from the bad, since we see their account name.
Another thing you could do, Dennis, is write a script that checks anybody who makes a new account's IP Address against existing ones, and if it finds a match, tell it to not make the newer account, so we don't have people with multiple accounts (Hogfaggot and Kid, I'm looking at you).

do it like me....i beta test my stuff by my self.....i dont even trust my team lol...also i protect the map while im testing it on my pc....................................................if u wanna test game play its kinda fun sometimes to play CTF with AIs...

The reason why people give them out to others is because others see bugs the original makers can't. Every good mapper or mapping team, even CMT, uses beta testers.

you just use a global variable for your special comand, and then when you load the map, you quickly type set yourcomandhere 1 before 10 seconds pass. dennis wouldnt upload something like that even if he had the code, nor would people wana play something like that if they had the code, and then only you and your testers can even play since they will know its testing only, and have the code

If you don't want your map released then you have to be more careful about who you give it to. It is YOUR responsibility to be sure you can trust the beta testers.

So what you are asking me to do is to do your job of qualifying your beta testers. Not going to happen, never, nada, forever an ever, nope not going to happen. Qualifying beta testers is the map makers job not mine.

]Do not mistake that with a lack of knowledge. I do not have the time it takes to dedicate to making a full map. I run a full time business and have these websites to contend with. There is barely enough time left over for sleep much less time to dedicate to map design.

I have made plenty of modified maps for the Halo CE Chronicles. Like I said "do not confuse not releasing maps with a lack of knowledge."

About the map, add more details to the tunnels, at least lights or something, you would probably want to put snipers in those grey towers you have on the sides. Also why is the middle of the map grassy when the exterior is snowy? It would be best to keep the same thing. Also put more debris around from destroyed building (and a destroyed/damaged building or two) for cover. Take out some of those burning hogs out, you have way too many.

Wow, hard kind of...life....Poor poor Dennis, having to watch over us children AND sleep. Anything we can do for you to help? Oh there is one thing we all know but NEVER DO and that's not to start flame wars/be jerks/not help people and get Dennis mad and lock everything and post the SAME warnings everytime. At last some feedback

The map that was leaked was only a test of the layout of the map. It was my own fault that it made it here!! LOL

Ok in the next version I have changed the smaller long boxes "buildings" for four smaller houses with one room you can get into.

Will add lights in the tunnels.

Hadn't thought of adding destroyed buildings in there but will see what i can come up with.

Am going to add sniper towers into the map somewhere!

as for the armory in each base I am going to change the weapons that are in there.

The burning hog will be reduced in number

A number of years ago I use to participate in a UT clan named ROF which stood for "real old farts" but I had to leave because I was to old <laugh>


Now to get back on topic if you would like some opinions of the layout: My first thought is that is it much too flat. Even grid cities are not built on flat level plains. You might think of maybe elevating or sloping a section of the map maybe behind a building to give some contour to the level. The absolute symmetry of the map in my opinion lends it an artificial feeling. That could be overcome with either offset placement of or different configuration of the buildings or their size. For example the 16 small buildings on either side of the central large ones could be staggered or you could interject taller or lower or wider ones to break up the symmetry. If you didn’t want to re-model the buildings or change the layout then another thing you could do is use more varied textures.

Ok to the topic. I can't believe I still haven't downloaded this map.
I don't know why TLS_Stronghold is the feature map. I know it's on downloads, but...I never see anyone play it.
