I've been looking around at a few things, looking for the right effects/behavior to recreate an H3 Snowbound Forcefield that stops weapons and vehicles but not players. I will be making videos of some of the more interesting ones:

http://savefile.com/client/files.php?pid=808533713

The first video I made documents a vehicle glitch in a map called Pemba by Paladin. If you donwload and watch the video you will see that I can walk through it just fine but there is a one way vehicle glitch that stops the red hog from leaving that area. The blue hog drove in just fine but also could not leave.

Another effect I mentioned in the video is that a properly made water plane, perhaps with the B30 water shader, causes some weapons to explode when they hit instead of passing through - notable here would be rockets and frg blasts. I need to do more testing to find out why this works and how to mod the other weapons to make use of the stopping power of the water material.

I imagine if you could get two to three planes close together, the outside ones with a transparent water effect on it to stop weapon fire and the middle one with the Pemba glitch to stop vehicles, then you would have something really close to the H3 Snowbound Forcefields, which would be really cool.

If you have any other ideas for how this could be done please share. If you're going to say that it can't be done, at least watch the pemba glitch video first. :P

Its possible to do the snowbound door with a simple collision geometry tag, there is a box that says to not allow players and vehicles pass through... Although the player part is a problem XD

Ya, but the pemba glitch lets players walk through it but I have no idea how it was done (and it was mostly likely unintentional).

Like I said before, I don't think it was intentional, and for players to have no collision is not normal.

I suspect it has to be a special kind of material id or a combination of them that got assigned when the model was made in 3ds. I pm'ed Paladin about it to see if he could tell me how it happened so then I'll know.

why dont you make a weapon with a constant object_create_anew so that it doesnt spin when hit, and players can go threw weapons, and since you claim vehicles cant go threw these shields, have volume triggers that change the weapons premutation to some red locked thing, and it also spawns some scenery to stop everything like its locked?

Did you watch the video I uploaded? The pemba glitch is an invisible one way wall that stops only vehicles. If I can figure out how that works, all I have to do is stop weapon fire.

For that I would like to use something like a water plane. Rockets and FRGs explode when they hit water, and with some tweaking I could possible affect other weapons with it as well.

By using the glitch and the water plane together, the only thing that can go through should be the players. If both those work, then this can be done without scripting.

Ya, I would prefer that grenades bounced off too. I'll see what I can do.

haha thats funny. it stops bullets but not grenades? thats like the old bullet proof jackets. they suposedly stopped bullets but if someone stabbed the guy in the jacket he was screwed

A water plane might not be the best thing to work with but if I can get it to have more properities in common with a covenant energy shield without having to rely on a collision model I think this way will work out the best.

I did make a video of the pemba glitch, thats what the download link is for. You shouldn't have to sign up to get it either though. Not sure I like savefile much, it never remembers my login. :/

*Edit*
This is the same link as above: http://savefile.com/projects/808533713

Quote: the effect paladin achieved was through nearly co-planar faces and this glitch only happens by chance. you can't recreate it every time you make that error.

My idea just got torpedoed as apparently this glitch only happens by chance.

If I go anywhere with this idea now, it'll probably be the scenery weapon thing. :/

Good try. Though...no one is making Snowbound, unless their keeping it a secret.
WAIT, nvm, here's someone making...'Snowbound'

Really, does that look like 'Snow'bound to you?

Ya, I gave it a good shot. That glitch would have been perfect, not just for the forcefield, but for preventing lame vehicle blocks happening to your tunnels and bases too. The other ideas are workable I suppose but not nearly as simple and clean to make as a plane with some material symbols.

I posted this over at the H2Vista forums a few days ago and Choking Victim from the zteam came up with this:

http://useruploads.mythica.org/cgi-bin/watch.cgi?f=h3_shield2.wmv&sid=2815396

Woot, this is awesome. An explanation of how he did it is over in the haloce general section.
