He is an idea for a new different kind of map not really done in halo yet. It's not a game play map. You know how there are those pick your own adventure books. Where there is like a short paragraph and it ends and gives you a few options. Like each option sends you to another page.

well i was tossing around the idea of bringing this into halo. where like you enter a room and on the wall is the paragraph to read. there are then like two teleporters and depending on which you take the story would take a different turn. of course it would have to be done in several maps if you wanted a long story. But a small adverture could be done in one map.

just wanted to hear what others had to say. I am not planing on doing this now but the idea poped into my head. so i wanted to hear some peoples views.

This seems interesting but it would actually require people to gasp! READ MORE THEN ONE SENTANCE!

It would take a lot of work to be good, and would it have any combat?

it could have combat. Like before you really have a chance to read the wall you got to kill some enemies. then after the enemies die you can then really pay attention and read. that would help make it more interesting for those who don't like to read lol.

You could possibly have some narration for some parts. That would keep some people more interested.

lol yes get Dennis to do some narration. just kidding.

you could do that but that may make it complicated. and may increase the file size alot. but one could do it like you said for a part or two.

most likely the story would be told in just text.

the story would not even have to be halo related.

to make this short and sweet simply place hard to kill respawning ai this would cause a player to pick a tele or die

No, because you want to give the player a chance to read his options. Also if the player doesn't want to move on he can just sit there.

It could be okay to place a few non respawning ai in each room just to give someone something to kill before reading the wall. like it would be a challenge.

as for after reading the wall instead of actually saying the options it would be cool just to say "pick a teleporter" that way the player would not have any idea how the story would turn.

i think it would be cool if say you read the paragraph it says: "when he went to through the next door there was a whole squad of aliens waiting for him!" then you actually do that and fight the aliens.

What would be awesome is having a sentence that says "Go into the [whatever tele] to save the planet, or go into [whatever tele] to sit and relax" and if the player chooses to sit and relax, and go through the tele, and pop into a room with annoying music and the walls says "No adventure in you? You Suck!!", or something like that.

Kiwi was thinking along the lines of the beginning being something like you decide to join the military and you have a chance to choose a career like assault, heavy weapons, snipers etc.

it would be cool to make bitmaps of the text of like it's written on old paper. most likely you would make the story kind of funny.

Kiwi that is an interesting idea you had as well.

but i sort of thought of a new idea that would work well also.

Have it like the movie cube. Where you start off in a room and you then pick different teles to go though. in each new room there is a challenge you have to beat. Like go though one you may have to kill some hunters, go though another and you may have to kill some flood. but of course there will still be text on the walls just there would also be action.

This idea is actually something that I have also thought about for a while. One thing you could do would be to have symbols above the teles signifying difficulty, type of combat, or enemies in the next room or area. In my mind the map would work similarly to an area 51 map with either bsp switch triggers (to cut down on lag, but increases mapsize), or teleports. Also you could even combine both methods. Just a thought.
