any time you give the flood rockets they just end up killing them selves cause they cant aim to save their lives

Maye I'm just sub-par at Halo, but in Combat Evolved, rocket Flood almost always get me the first time. :s

This mod looks great, I can't wait to play it. But, I'm a little confused that there are weapons that have not been invented yet, and enimies that have yet to be encountered? Sorry if this is a noobish question, I just joined the CE community a few days ago coming from playing mostly reach and h3.

CMT abides by their own modified version of the canon. An alternate universe, I guess you could call it. So while a lot of the core elements of the storyline remain, details and timelines have been changed and shifted around. They're approaching the original campaign with the power of hindsight and the lessons learned from the rest of the Halo series, and incorporating elements from those other games into Combat Evolved.

Whatever you do with 343 - don't kill the mood. That level still gives me the heeby jeebys.

Agreed.

I watched a friend play the campaign for the first time a few months ago, and c10's repetitive sections had an interesting effect. After the flood-reveal climax, my friend had an especially hard time finding the way out. And that was just getting back to the first (broken) elevator. Heck, seeing the look on his face after he went through all that effort was priceless.

Point is, the confusion caused by the repetitive sections adds to the feel of the level. However it's also, y'know, annoying. Will you do what 343 did and add textures to differentiate sections, or keep it in its maddening glory?

Also, remember those Elite corpses with their chests burst open? A great way to introduce Elite (shielded) flood would be to walk into a room full of them, and then watch as they re-animate.

There is really not much we can do with it than add more scary stuff and introduce our Flood. We are going to be having a new area where the Covenant try to evacuate the swamp which should be cool. Because when are 3 way fights not cool.

Quote: --- Original message by: TenTonHammer
its going to be intresting for the latter halfs of the project with flood to see how you make them a bigger threat to the covenant, ive always felt that in open sections like 2 betrayals the flood get their asses handed to them espically near the end of the map where the covenant would rip through the flood with vehicles and shades and any time you give the flood rockets they just end up killing them selves cause they cant aim to save their laves

Well, we have some new forms planned and each combat form has it's own specific AI. Plus we have real time infections and we have some new ways of introducing flood to encounters through scripts.

Welcome to CE! Our narrative is that the POA was full of prototype weapons, which is why it has so much stuff. The Covenant Fleet is just configured with their own prototype or older weaponry, much like the Covenant encountered on Reach.

I'm not sure if CMT will be doing real-time infections. Some people have complained about them, and really I dunno how I feel about it. It could add interesting gameplay, but at the same time be annoying if you're fighting Covenant and Flood at the same time and the Elite you just killed comes back to life with it's shield.

EDIT: CMT is doing real time infections, but my concern still stands, especially because of the three-way fight they just told us about.

Well the ones that were split open didn't have infection forms, so I don't think they'd reanimate.

I am sure we can do something with blood and decals to give people a better sense of what room they are in. I still get lost there too as a matter of fact.

The Flood can only infect live bodies, so anything that is dead stays dead. The only things you'll see be infected in real time is enemies who are currently alive.

They had a release date, but then things didn't go as planned or whatever, so now they are just going by a "to do" list. You could probably find it a few pages back. They are crossing things out as they finish.

That is for Evolved, not for SPV3. The complications from that being delayed may delay SPV3 as well, or may not. It all depends on how much we can get done.

The orb at the top is the main part that explodes on impact, launcher the smaller ones. I do like your idea of a purple and green scheme that's less bruteish.

Considering how ad hoc it looks, though, it really seems more-suited to being the product of improvisation in the field (as the German "geballte ladung" cluster grenades were), rather than a purpose-built grenade that's mass produced in Covenant factories.

I think the surrounding fuel rods should be identical to the ones found on a regular Fuel Rod gun, and that the initial bursting charge should resemble the head of a spike grenade (nestled in the center of the surrounding fuel rods) with the barbs removed, for sake of contrast with all the glowy green. Right now, it looks like more of a decorative neon tree lamp than a weapon.

Holy cow are you guys actually putting that in? Haha! Saw that on Masterz's Twitter and thought "wow, they're putting a fuel-rod grenade into the mod? That would be so hilariously, awesomely OP that I kind of want it, but they'd never actually include it... would they?"

Michael Bay would be proud *sniff*

You bring up a point I don't think you meant to make. Since the BPP shoots fire, and fire activates grenades... I wonder if that will be a bit too abusable?

Speaking of grenades, we can now carry only two of each type right?

Yes only 2. Grenade drops from enemies are significantly reduced, and not every enemy drops grenades. The explosions from each part of the cluster grenade are relatively weak, only in tight corridors can you really be guaranteed a kill with one.

Ahh shame. Chaining grenade explosions together was one of the most fun and satisfying things in the vanilla campaign IMO. I totally get the need to tone it down for the sake of balance, but would be nice to see it still in there to some extent.

We did back when the ODST mission was planned, a few years ago. Masterz said it was still in the game then, but we haven't gotten any updates sense. Here's the picture from 2012. (Blue is Speed Boost)

And of course now everything is Armor Abilities, so it doesn't look like that.

yeah it's an armor upgrade. It's pretty fun on the Library to see everything go into slow mo and just start cutting down a swarm of flood just as they are ready to overwhelm you.

Also chain reactions are still quite common, just often 3 explosions from a single character rather than the 4 you use to get before. We have some stuff just for creating chain explosions... more on that in the future.

I hope it has a long regen time, because I feel like that can be really abused.

There is a 50-50 chance that it will be abused. I know that TSC:E uses a "Ball Shade Turret" but will SPV3 use it as well? TSC:E and SPV3 "do" share some content.
