Masterz has been very vocal about his distaste for melee weapons in Halo. SPV3 will not have an energy sword, gravity hammer, or anything of the like.

I'm fairly certain some elites will wield an energy sword. I think Masterz statement is towards user wieldable melee weapons.

Yeah elites will wield swords, my problem is mainly with the player having a Halo 2 styled sword that encourages you to forget about guns and grenades and just rush head first into fights. Never mind the problems we would have trying to make such a sword work.

Will elites that wield swords only wield swords? Or will behavior be like in later halo games where an elite will pull out a sword if some condition happens(too close, low health, etc)?

There is a reason why swords could never be picked up in the original game. That is why enemies should use it alone.

we'd have to script stuff like that and we are having so many problems with the sheer amount of scripts we are using.

Anyway just came out on Halopedia and found something interesting. I read about the Brute Chieftains in Halo Reach, there is a rare Chieftain that uses Brute Captain Major armor.
What I'm trying to say is in SPV3 it would be rare to find Chieftains using Brute Leader armor at some points. Just pointing out an idea.

bit of a pointless remark now, but with OS' vector physics, you could easily simulate the sword's lunge, and then furthermore just giving it some battery would solve its power issue.

Pointless because I know you wont do it and the fact that you justified the gameplay choice in not doing it, so just dropping that cuz its food for thought
