such as? personally i dont think so, because most of it will either be hidden by hand when reloading or by clip covers when in the gun. so there is no point.

Geared, your work is some of the best on this forum, solely because of the fact that you model from your imagination. Originality has become rare around here. If you allowed me to make some sub-d, high res versions of your weapons, that would be really sweet. Add me on xfire: sith610 (nick: Geo)

1:the foregrip isnt finished, its supposed to be padded later on. 2:the thing on top is a vent 3: the thing on bottom is a ammobox(plasma cell or battery or w/e) 4: the holes above grip are gonna hold cylinders that rotate as u fire.5:stock is supposed to be that wide. its a wide gun,a big ars gun....lol
its stilla wip and i gotta redo the smoothing a bit more later.
and btw if u read my description of the weapon ull realize that u dont look down its sights(its supposed to be halfway between shoulder and hip...the stock is high for that reason, and the vent is on top...GOSH!....lol

Geared, great work. I've been viewing the threads on other computers since mine went AWOL for a while and I have to say you're getting better with every model.

Looks a lot like a gun from District 9.. Speaking of which, I have been working on one as well. Once I get far enough along to seem fit, I will post pics.

Never tried working on a gun before so I figured I would post this. Can someone recomend a good tutorial for rigging. noding, and FP? I'm pretty sure I will be able to figure out the texture unwrapping. Yes I know it is VERY low poly but I figure if I can't learn the rest of the stuff what is the point in going much further.

Yes, good call!

I din't bother looking at a better picture than the one I had last night so I now see there are some more things I need to modify a bit if I go through with finishing this.

Please don't tell me you are putting THAT in game? If you where putting it in a PSP or Mobile game then fair enough, but not a computer game...

Read the last sentence. This is my first gun. I want to see if I can even get the taging and animation down right and if so then if all goes well I will put more than an hour into the model.

Game design is not my college major, I just do this for fun.

meh don't listen to him slasher, not everyone understands that ppl somethimes do things to try out or for fun, like u with this gun. yes the model is bad, BUT its ur first one, adn ur just trying to c if u can tag, so ur main focus atm isn't the model but what u can do with it. good for you man, keep it up.

Thanks Geared. I know what you're saying there. If I was going to release something I would put a lot more detail and precision in it. Maybe someday I will work to make it precise but I would definitely have to redo much of the model.
I mean look at the clip for crying out loud. Could there be any less detail without it being a flat plane.
:D

As much as i despise that horrid excuse of a model and would consider my own feces more appealing, that's a pretty good point. I strongly would recommend improving your modeling skills since it only gets more satisfying from there on out, but if its just for fun and you want to learn how to import, that's more important at the moment. Once you figure that out though, it'd only benefit you to go back and perfect the art aspect, plus less people would tear apart your efforts.

ok we understand that u are amazing at 3d modeling, but there is still no need to be like that. you could have left it at the red half of that sentence.

well at least you understood why he is doing it and pretty much not telling him to go f himself(as most ppl will do in terms such as: that suks/that better not go ingame/gtfo) and yes after he gets himself comfortable doing tagging and exporting, then he should work on his modeling, but not everyone is good at multiple aspects of this, some ppl are better animators then modelers or vice versa, or some ppl may have no modeling or animation skills whatsoever but are great at tagging scripting or such. But it would be nice to see him work on some more visually appealing models.

Well... I would like to be slightly proficient at some of what I am doing so I can make some things completely on my own. Then I don't have to wait on people who say they will do it and I come to find out that they went on vacation for 3 months or some kind of BS excuse like that. The more I can do myself, the more I don't have to listen do this kind of thing, and the only person who will be responsible for failure or lack of speed of work is myself.

I'm majoring with an art degree, that's the kind of critique you get around here. Nothing to do with trying to look better, it's just the kind of critique you learn to accept, and eventually just consider normal.

So once you get an art degree, its acceptable to go from words of encouragement (to someone who is obviously very new to this and is just having some fun) to just being plain rude?

we don't get words of encouragement, we get motivation. The point of harsh critiquing tends to make people want to strive for better results to prove those who doubted them wrong. Fun or not doesn't mean I will change my style of critiquing, as said before, don't post work in a thread meant for critique if you don't want someone to give you their honest opinion.

Your critique sucks, penguin, and does nothing more than insult the model.

To be honest, penguin I think you're being a little ridiculous. People who strive for art degrees are people who are confident enough in their skills and talents to actually make it the central goal of their college studies. Users who post their beginning work here do not generally coincide with that group of people, and therefore should not be treated as if they were. What harsh criticism does to most users here is discourage them from trying.

Oh well, what's done is done. You can do one of two things now. Give up or go google the beretta 9000 tutorial when you have some free time and it will get you on the right track to being more self sustaining and less reliant on those who can't follow through

Its out of proportion.
The hole in the barrel is too large.
The render could be better.

Advancebo's response to Geared's post is better than what Penguin responded. Not only was it better, but it was at least semi-useful even though it was half formed and nonspecific.

Extremely boxy, it looks like he just outlined the gun and extruded.
Also out of proportion, the hole in the front of the silencer is unneeded, it has no magazine either. The sight is all wrong, and needs more detail. The trigger is just a block, and it looks dumb. Silencer itself has a few too many bevels on it. Tbqh, I would suggest he watch www.fpsbanana.com/tuts/332 then start all over.

Critique can be harsh, or it can be nice, but as long as it's useful and will help you get somewhere with your specific art, it will and always will be 'crit.'
