This exactly^
Just look at some of the reloads in tf2. Especially the pistol. Who reloads like that?
Nobody, they just put it in because it's visually interesting.

Correct. Also, in cases like tf2, the animations (including first person, but more importantly the third person character animations) have to match the character's personality. They definitely managed that very well

The pistol looks good, but I might just be easily excited (not that way!)

Um, yea you would, I got a shotgun, when ever I hold it, it's in between my shoulder and my chest. The only difference with the position is when you look down the sights. If you were to rest it, it would be lowered, but the point is, you can still see it, you have peripheral vision right?

you missed the point completely. you guys are really good at that. what im saying is that critiquing a first person animation origin based on how you would hold a weapon in real life is just stupid.

I assume you use the same logic when you model? Look, it's cool if it looks like that, but seriously, when you got a weapon, you don't do any fancy crap, you fire and reload. Do it either way, but it's more logical to do it my way. If you want it realistic, follow my way, but if you want a stupid looking animation, go ahead.

How well do you do on reading comprehension tests? What donut is trying to say is that you dont actually hold a rifle that way when your not firing it or lining up a shot. You hold it downward like this

for several reasons. One of them being that your arms will get tired if you hold it outward for extended amounts of time. The reason you don't set origins up that way is because it would look bad, and because you want to be able to fire the weapon at any given time without having to situate the gun.

Forget it, apparently I'm a dumbass who doesn't know a single thing about anything anymore, because pricks like you guys refuse to understand.

All you're opening statements are harsh and are meant to hurt, seriously, you should actually read what you say for once.

The back end of the slide looks smushed to me.

well, im not used to pistol origins but whatever
The actual position of the gun is passable, maybe move it back a bit, but fingers and everything else is absolutely horrid. Maybe I'll make a step-by-step thread on how to make origins sometime when I'm bored.

Right arm looks too stiff, and doesn't give enough room for movement. Move it forward a bit more.

Left arm shouldn't be supporting on the handle of the gun. If it was he would be holding the gun much higher (not to mention the other way looks better)

Rather it should be wrapping around the right hand.

It takes longer to do it that way, especially for reload animations, as the left hand has to return to that position.

It isn't exactly that hard to do, and one of the most important aspects of animating is making origins. I spend about 20 minutes average making the origins for my weapons, and I'm sure you know how those turn out.

Like this:

Of course, this is the CoD4 rig and not the Halo 1 rig. In terms of the Halo 1 rig, here's one I made with the left hand wrapping around the gun as well:

In reload animations, it really isn't that hard to make it go back to origin. Hell, it even helps with some stylizing. If you want to see the [crappy] reload animations I made for both, just Xfire me.

I see what you mean. I prefer having the left hand under the gun, as it's easier for me to place for certain animations.

When they made the M7 im pretty sure it was supposed to be a side arm/a civil defence weapon, a spartan chew toy.

excellent, at least one person knows what im talking about. apply the idea of the weaver stance to the hand positioning and implied force of a handgun animation.

A member of a Crysis modding team I am in has textured my shotgun, it looks awesome.

Hopfully he will send it to me and allow me to use the texture. Smoothing has been taken of btw.

The barrel should be brighter than the grip parts. And why is there an ejection port on the left side of the gun?

And eww, halo 2 green sights.
