make the stock bulkier. you need to offset the weight distribution of your gun there.

also IRON SIGHTS. MAKE THE BACK ONE SMALLER PLEASE. and the rails. look up a picture of rails on google and make yours more like theirs. just because your gun is huge doesnt mean the rails have to be huge

I'm not. In terms of realism it's very impractical, especially the magazine sequence. In then sense of originality it looks like a Gewher43/svt-40/m1 garand, any top end ejection gun. And lastly it is not an appealing design at all.

ok u do realize:
1: is stated i was bored in illustrator class
2: its CONCEPT
3: even if it is impractical in real life, does it matter? its for a game, i doubt most of the weapons that are well done here or any mapping/modding site for games are actually practical in real life, unless its a RL type of game(aka AA3 or such), or the whole point was to make a real life possible weapon
4:my idea want gonna be a top ejection, but side, but i just wanted to do it top anyways, cause i liked the way it looked, and it wasn't inspired by any of those, i just decided to make a pump less spaz12 kinda gun in my own way.

but either way i accept ur crit,or statement or w/e.

I'm with penguin.

By saying its a concept and it doesn't matter, is trying to cover up your mistakes and not seeing what you are doing wrong for future reference.

Was I telling you it has to be? No. I was mentioning that fact, not telling you to fix it. And while most games don't follow realism (they're games they shouldn't) the weapons still follow some sort of practicality.

And it still doesn't change the fact it's a boring concept.

Realistically speaking, nothing has to follow anything. Games out there follow completely impractical concepts (Quake, Unreal, tons of those top-down shooters). Even then, Halo has weapons like the Plasma weapons, and lets not forget the Needler.

There are games out there that make no practical sense, but still work. I'd say leave realism to games like Call of Duty and Medal of Honor.

The gun being a boring concept is only an opinion. Not a fact. While many reviews may read a movie or game as absolutely terrible, there are people out there who enjoy them regardless. While something may not appeal to you, it's your opinion and yours only. Others may share the opinion, but not everybody will. I happen to like the design, and if he produces it in Max and gets it in game, more power to him.

Again, nothing has to follow anything, it's up to the creator to decide what he can and cannot do.

Its made out of boxes and cylinders... What is wrong with some curves and maybee a bit more depth on the sides to give it an interesting FP look. Instead of extruded blocks make them curves or something. And all weapons on games do have a logical functionality, plasma rifle generates plasma from a battery then fires it, simplez.

Again, you're sticking specifically to the Halo universe. A pistol takes down a spartan in 3 hits, where as an Assault Rifle is relatively useless in comparison. That doesn't make any logical sense considering even a Desert Eagle wouldn't stand up to an M16. A needle weapon somehow "tracks" enemies, which is completely unexplained aside from some "tracking mechanism."

Still, you should broaden your horizons when it comes to weaponry. Explain how the rocket launcher in Quake 3 seems to reload itself instantly, or how the Shield Gun in UT generates the shield it does, as well as the "punch" attack. Explain the logic behind the rotating front of the Assault Rifle and Lightning Gun, or the logical use of a Railgun in Quake 3, or the portable, handheld, multi-barrel Rocket Launcher and Flak Cannon from UT.

The point is, there are games that follow completely unbelievable, illogical designs, but they work. You can't tell someone what's right or wrong, you can only explain their illogical design. And even then, it's their choice what to do with it. If they want to do something completely unrealistic, that's their choice.

Hey you, yeah you, shut the god damn hell up.
He's learning to model and is just some person doing this as a hobby, to hell with practicality, hes having fun doing it and that's all that matters. I paint some pretty unrealistic stuff, and people never beat my ass over it. Let him have his artistic freedom, quit being a douche, and get off his ass. And how about linking him to some sites on how things like this work, instead of just insulting his work, though after how you treated him, I highly doubt he'll even listen to you anymore or go to that site. Hell I hope he doesn't, practicality kills originality, if you base your stuff off of the known and previously made, how can you make something new and wonderful? I respect you for your capabilities in modeling penguin, but I am not letting you get off of treating people like that.

I left Modacity because of this type of stupidity. What is boring to someone is exciting for another. Any human who says their ideas are perfect are instantly arrogant and/or ignorant.
Quote:
Ex of Modacity:

Newbie: "Hey guys, this is my first model ever and I just wanted to see what I could do to improve on it." :)

Modacity: "HOLY WTF IT SUCKS YOU SUCK IT ALL SUCKS."

*Newbie has left Modacity.

*Newbie has stayed and become an arrogant moron.

What else do I have to say? With the exception of several people there, most of that community is filled with people who want to dictate anything they can possible and be popular as possible there. That's why I stay here, where you receive somewhat valid and considerate criticism. Instead of people saying it sucks, they say that it could be better. This site encourages instead of discourages.

Do me a favor. Find a plastic bag, duct tape it to your neck, and take a really deep breath. First of all, you are retarded, I was referring to the shotgun concept posted earlier. Not the GL model. Second, in no way was the criticism I gave him insulting, harsh, or unnecessary. It was stern and right to the point, and said what I wanted to say. That's how criticism is. It's not "ass hattery" it's how you will receive criticism in the real world. Grow up.

Third, my area of expertise is not concept art, therefore I have no advice on how to properly draw concept art. However my opinion of the final product is that it is far too bland and basic. In addition the reload sequence seems far to odd and impractical for me to find appealing, not that it has to be practical, as muki very intelligently stated.

Also where did I say you have to be practical and unoriginal? I said it lacked a sense of originality, because it reminded me to much of many other top end ejection rifles.

It's called CRITICISM for a reason. I told him what was wrong with it, I personally have no good ideas, not the time to think about what he should add to it, but he's a big boy I'm pretty sure he can handle that on his own and then ask again.

Know what you're talking about before you speak.

Since we're on the topic, that grenade launcher I actually like. It's rather original, which you don't see often anymore, despite the rather basic modeling method. My only issue with it is the iron sights are kinda meh, you could come with somethin better. Also if those are rails they should look like real picatinny rails, they just look nicer

I don't "hail" from modacity. I come from a background of actual, in field game work. I freelance for real clients, and I'm majoring in game art and animation. That's how it is in the real world. Like I said, grow up.

@Penguin's first quarter of speech: That isn't funny nor does it help. I don't like it when people tell others to kill themselves. No hard feelings though if any.

@Penguin's second quarter: I like the GL too, reminds me of when I box modeled my weapons. Good times, good times. I wish Gmax would still work on my computer though.

Most games dont follow practicality at all :| Chainsaw Assault Rifle? Two barrel rotating rocket launcher? Top loading shotguns? Lever action shotguns? Two magazine burst firing pistols? A shotgun that fires two shells at once out of one barrel? An SMG with a grenade launcher? A rifle with a 6 round burst?

None of those are practical at all. And almost all of those have something else nutty with them other than that. Dont be a jerk. That wasn't criticism, that was just a way to make someone else feel offended. OBVIOUS TROLE IS OBVIOUS!

This is the neostead2000. It is a shotgun. A wierd one. I didn't model it, it was released open source on CDG by a guy named Thelama. I'm animating it currently, renders to follow.

God your ignorance saddens me. If you think that small post i made was an insult I pray you make it in the real world. Please point out where in that effing post was I insulting his efforts. Everything in there is telling him my opinion on the matter. But it's cool, don't listen to criticism you asked for. Don't listen to the one person on this forum who has professional experience, not like that would help you anyway.

As for that shotty, it looks to centered, and feels a bit obscuring of the view. Perhaps move it right a bit. Hand positioning looks rather natural though, that came out nice.
