see how you can see the edges of what i circled? try chamfering that. it might seem like alot of triangles, but it looks a hell of a lot better. my br scope has like 24 sides. dont be afraid to use alot of triangles for something like that

Fear used 3ds max to make the model, not sure which one though.

Gmax is the most common modeling program used around here, and it has very little diferences to Autodesk 3DS Max, as they made both programs. It is no longer provided by Autodesk, but is legally available through Turbosquid for free.

Gmax is free, 3DS Max is not. An official copy straight from Autodesk can cost up to one grand. The liscence to used copys of the software is available across the internet on site such as amazon.com. You could also aquire an illegal "Cracked" Copy, but i wouldn't know where and i am not at liberty to discuss it further. Dennis doesn't even want it mentioned on this site, because of the fact that it is in itself illegally aquired software.

Maya is also occasionally used. It too can cost a pretty penny, and you can aquire second hand copys or "you know" copys of it as well, i would presume. I heard they will give the software to people who will advertise it for them. This would explain all the Maya 7 ads in Chronopolis, but i'm not sure of this.

Blender is also free. I haven't gotten far with using Gmax but i have some slight experience with Blender. It has the tools you need, but its more for a slightly more experienced modeler. Nonetheless, its a very user friendly program and tutorials are available for it. If you know what you are doing, it can be used just as well.

I am not sure if there are other modeling programs. Its likely there are, and i would presume there are, but not that i have heard of or would know anything about.

Like i said, if you know what you are doing, Blender is good and its free. It can render, it has the tools, and its user friendly. But because tutorials usually use 3DS or Gmax, the layout is different, so you have to know what the tools do, where they are, and if they are the right tool. Plus, the units in Gmax or 3DS are different, most likely.

CR-24 Flame Rifle:
Reference:

Used by the Empire as a defoliant/riot control device.
In other words, a flamethrower which turns Rebellions into barbecue.

(Nasty smoothing error near the front of that bottom shot on the fugly thing, I know.)

Too many extrudes. It adds to the detail, but add more interesting detail than what you just have.

How is someone suppose to hold that? The handles look huge and too thick to get a good grip on. The front handle also looks awkward to hold because of how flat it is on the back. I have no crit for anything else since I'm not a modeler. Looks fine to me, except a few other parts that I bet people will point out and hopefully help you fix.

Like what ODX said, it's way too thick. Imagine holding that, or attempting to, it just wouldn't work out too great. Especially for a flamethrower. There are multiple errors on it, like the front barrel attaching to the gun. It needs to be moved back or something. And also, the extrusions all over it for details doesn't make it look any better, the barrel especially looks terrible how you did it. When you do extrude, try to keep it to a minimum, or else it won't look good. And don't make them go in too deep, or else it'll make it look worse.

The scope thing isn't going to a scope. It's a flamethrower, why would it have a scope? I decided to make it a HUD readout instead, similar to the one found on the Assault Rifle. I'm using R2-D2-esque holograms to achieve a "Star Wars" effect.
First Person shot (May be backed out a little more so you can see the whole HUD readout, I just noticed that):

Front view:

Side view:

Side view (Clip removed):

Sizing comparison:

One thing I don't like is that the clip holder seems too smooth on the outside. I don't know what to put there, however.

Did you play marathon 2? I attempted making the same gun out of primitives a while ago. I may still be able to finish it, but I honestly want to plane model the rest of the gun.

Pffft. I win:

The "errors" are actually horrible Texturing, shadowing, and smoothing.

Might just be the perspective. If not, it isn't suppose to be like that from what I last knew.

No, I'm pretty sure that's considerably accurate. Yours is just a block of white. Plus, no one can say if it's accurate in 3D because it has never been in full 3D. Mine is also badly rendered. I'll hand it to you to fix up (I know there are quite a few errors) if you want me to.
