A few days ago, I released my first released map named Dam Assault pre-alpha. It was EXTREMELY cheap. You could easily get on top of the map and see the bottom of the sky. In fact, it only took me like 3-4 hours to make the pre-alpha version. The old version had only grass on the ground texture, the dam looked like a big wall, unbalanced weapon/vehicle placement, and it pretty much sucked. I don't know why I released it that early, but now it is looking alot better. (I had to rename it because someone else [Tarzan] was already making a map named Dam Assault, so I renamed it to Dam Defense ) The new version you can still see the end of the river, and still is very buggy. It still has a Pelican, but I only recomend it for CTF.

New version:

  • It has cliffs

  • It has a better ground texture (the cliff textures still aren't perfect)

  • The dam looks more like a dam

  • More balanced vehicle/weapon placement

  • Dam still not attached to BSP, just a scenery object

  • A whole lot of other improvements

Great Job. You might want to put a waterfall on the far end where the water meets the sky, and extend the bsp so you can fall off the waterfall; instead of having it come to a complete stop of nothingness.

Well, I am going to make to make the river longer, and make it slightly foggy so you couldn't see the end of the BSP. I don't want the map to be too big. I might do the waterfall, but it would just be "for looks" I wouldn't make it where you could walk on it. I want it to be no bigger than Sidwinder. It looks big now, but I tried to design it so the playing area would stop at the dam, and the rest just for looks.

THe purpose of a Dam is usually to contain water in an area. The water level should be higher on one side.

I have made TONS of other maps before, but this is the first one I have released. On one of the maps, I tried to make a fog plane, but couldn't figure it out, how do you?

BTW, what does WIP stand for?

Ohhh, I never tried adding a $, I just tried adding exact portals, and editing the weather in the water portal, ohhh, thanks.



Wait, I tried that, it didn't work. You do just add a box, and apply that material to it, and in the box it is foggy, don't you?

Never mind, It is kinda off-topic.

Wait, for the water-fall, did you mean going away from the dam? If you did, then that wouldn't make much since, because then the river would dry up.

well i would not call you a noob cause you actually have an idea for a map thats working. it's not just some ugly box lol.

use these teleporter sheild tags

maybe color cordinate the teleporters in your map or something.

Wow, pretty colors lol. I might use them, but now I only have 2 teleporters. Therefore only 2 colors. (I did all of that in my head!! )

Actually, you are a noob, you only have 5 posts, but that doesn't mean you don't have any skills. I knew how to make maps decently way before I came to these foums.

And I don't know how to use 3ds Max either, I just use Blender, export it into 3ds Max, and then export it as a .jms.

Yeah, I am going to just totally redo the dam texture, for now it is just the default metal texture that came with Halo.
