Is there a way to go past that? How did they do it in coldsnap?

Yeah, I have the exact same problem, I have been aiming to buy more RAM, but haven't yet. That is what would be my best bet to fix it.

it has too many polies then and coldsnap was made with a low poly method

coldsnap has around 46000 polys
