On a partially related note, I'm looking for a fun group of people to frag in Quake 3 Arena, trying to get good and playing with bots or super rock hard pros online can only get me so far. (not Quake Live, pls no, but I do have that too)

(Actually I own all of the quakes except 4 and Enemy Territory, hmu if you wanna frag for a bit)

All the games except live, 4, and wars were $15 in a bundle on steam due to Quakecon sales. Brother ended up going to Quakecon, Quake Champions is looking pretty sweet from what I've heard too.

which overlays ACTUALLY WORK ingame with halo?

(I tried discord but it unhooks the mouse cursor so it isn't actually usable) doesn't work

(I'm not quite sure Raptr ever worked) doesn't work

(I tried Evolve like a year ago but I don't think that one ever successfully HOOKED into the game. Which is a shame since evolve seems to have click-and-drag filesharing just like xfire. And other useful stuff like the ability to make MMO-style party-chat systems ingame, which I think would be GREAT for playtesting) doesn't work

(Steam wont even launch the game.). Oh damnit. NOW it works. (using win10 enterprise LTSB and OpenSauce).

Too bad steam doesn't have filesharing-chat or a way to pin custom-chats ingame without hiding the overlay... I'm really starting to miss the days of collaberative mapmaking with strangers

Depends on what you want from an overlay :v

I use discord's overlay because my recordings show who's actually talking for once. More or less all I need.
