Hello, my name is mcrafter3000 and I am an aspiring halo custom edition map creator. I am looking to make a remake of sorts for Truth and Reconciliation in which I will completely change the level layout and encounters http://www.strawpoll.me/10724817 here is a link to the strawpoll to generalise any criticism or praise you can give for the map.

Few questions for you 1. Why Truth and Reconciliation? Is there a specific reason you chose this map? 2. What personally did you find lacking in this map? 3. What personally did you enjoy about this map? 4. Can you think of possible ways to make the encounters more diverse without making them more complex? 5. Can you fit your changed designs without changing the gameplay? 6. Instead of remaking the map, why not make a map inspired by it? Is this within your bounds of feasibility or are you trying to work with what you already have?
These are things you should think about before starting your project. Also, since you seem to be new to this, i'll give you some advice in saying that you should first try to understand the tools you are given before you try to make a project. Look through some of the tutorials around this sits and the Halo CE3 site to familiarize yourself with the tools.
I would recommend you don't try to dive into a campaign mission first, as that requires a lot more work and concentration than a multiplayer map, or even just working on tags. Past that, if you do end up pursuing this regardless, I'm mildly interested in seeing where this may take you.

Thank you for the feedback. Before I attempt to answer your question, I will need to play the original map again. I know what my criticisms are but I need to make sure the spirt of the map is fully engraved into my head before starting. I will get back to you by Sunday as I can only play on weekends. Hope you are fine with it

So you're going for like a TAR:Evolved sorta thing? I'm guessing you're new to map making so I'll just echo R93's sentiments that a SP campaign might be quite the heavy burden for a first project (unless you have experience outside of CE that you're confident applies to CE).
But I like the idea so I'll bite.
Before entering the ship. There is only 1 sections I think Bungie did well on, that is the battle for the gravity lift. The Grav-lift section is fun for a variety of reasons, like being able to go in with active-camo, guns blazing, getting in the turrets for yourself etc. I think its a great multi-faceted and dynamic area, and has a convenient excuse to keep dropping new waves of enemies on you to maximize space. All the other areas feel quite linear and boring, you sit back and snipe enemies, and thats about it. you can go in loud but that usually just results in getting surrounded and dying quickly. I think the first "Covertly take out as many covenant as you can" section could be reworked to be more interesting, like opening up a few more paths to walk around and take out enemies, or avoid the encounter all together. (fitting into the whole under cover of night theme). ---Basically try and open up the cliff side encounters, they suffer from being too straight forward, and even worse suffer from having an obviously optimal weapon to use.
TAR is one of the shorter and more hyper linear maps, especially once you reach the ship its a literal corridor shooter except for a few rooms. The only inspiration I think I can give on improving the interior segments would be to take a note off of Halo:Reach's Long Night of Solace, after you land in the covenant ship. It had its fair share of corridors, but it had some large rooms, like the hangar which made for an interesting firefight moment, and the control room where you could play it smart and sneak around. ---To put it short, I'm not saying get rid of the corridor sections all together, but I am saying cut down on them, Halo is more interesting when you get options to tackle a situation in a variety of ways, not being rammed down a single path.

I was thinking that the entire first section of the mission could be entirely in stealth or rewarded it in many ways. So if you manage to reach the gravity lift only getting detected twice, you will be able to reach it in a far shorter time like you can skip 2 encounters entirely because you stealthed it. If you raised the alarm 3 times, you will need to fight through the rest of the mission and once you get to the gravity well, you need to fight an extra 2 waves consisting of gold elites with plasma rifles and hunters. And to make matters worst, you will be unable to use the gravity lift as the ship will close it on you, then you must get a banshee and fly into the hanger, skipping the first area where you must sneak through the cargo bay
And also i want to incorporate some warthog combat as well as the normal TAR is very stale with just sniping and tight corridors
So from the strawpoll overall people feel that there are too little weapons, the map is boring but alot of people still think the map is fun and the encounters are fun.
After playing it again with a fresh mindset I can say I enjoy it but it has alot if drawbacks like no pistol and pretty much only 3 weapons. Sniper plasma Rifle and plasma pistol Edited by mcrafter30001 on Jul 16, 2016 at 01:29 AM
