I like carbines. Too much probably.

Whenever I try to use tool to make structure bsps or collision data, I get dozens of errors with update edge and open edge. At first I thought it was because of my bad modeling skills, but I get the same problem with models I download from this site. The hek tutorial told me what causes these errors, but not how to fix them.

TBH I think you should really learn all you can about 3dsmax before trying to make a map.

I never truly understood why open edges were bad until a year and a half ago even though I knew how to ammend them long before that.

Of course there are ways to bypass open edges and similar errors by using render only materials applied to surfaces in conjunction with render collision only materials on simpler surfaces. (Mootjuh <3)

There is also toolio.exe.

But these "hacks n'cheaties" don't really hold a candle to really learning how to model cleanly and effectively.

months ago i tried to do a simple 6 faces box map on 3d max, and somehow it had open edges, i never could find/fix them :( .That frustration makes any newbie give up instantly.

Maybe you export the masterchief model by accident.

It means that it would be nice if the game engine or compilation programs would automatically patch unsealed geometry if it needed it to be patched, rather than expecting it to already be precisely how the developers want it. Making content designers jump through hoops is the opposite of user-friendliness.

But, but, but that's what +seamsealer is for!
