I ask because I remember when I used to be active in a modding team, people were trying to figure out how to pull it off(Halo 3 had just come out). All of a sudden it just came to me(I wasn't even thinking about Halo) that you could probably pull it off by using a weapon that can't be picked up that is unaffected by explosions and has a proper collision geometry. Bullets can interact with the collision geometry of weapons, but players and vehicles dont.
Thoughts? This could also work for other things, like attaching a weapon to a tree using a creation effect in the scenery tag, that way the leaves can't be stood on, but it properly interacts with projectiles. Edited by MosesofEgypt on Mar 19, 2016 at 02:56 AM

Yup. I figured someone had already come up with something, but I also figured I might as well offer up an idea if not.
Also, I've 'started' on my tag editor. I have a basic gui application front-end which allows me to do "create/load/load as/save/save as" with any tag that's been defined. It's just a tiny piece of the program, but at least I've started on it. Most of the work is going to be careful design considerations to make sure the procedural gui is flexible and builds intuitively, yet is properly structured and not resource intensive.
I'm coming off of spring break this Monday, so I prolly won't be able to work on it anymore until the end of the semester, but I'll likely chip away at some aspect of it in the mean time.
In the mean time, anyone interested in maybe trying this thing out? It's one of the only things I've ever more or less completed for Halo. It doesn't jump or hover(I wanted it to though), but it does have an energy cannon, chaingun, homing pod rockets, and an energy shield(you cant move while its out though). It's a redesign of the Sophia tank from blaster master.
Here's a photobucket album of it. The Halo album is of it actually ingame. I dont have an upload of the tags yet. The video is old-ish. Any idea where I should upload it that I don't have to sign up?

I'm quite well aware of that masterz. I learned that when I was still modding the halo demo in like, 2006 and I was making nuke pistols lol.

Well in that regard, you can't do it like H3. You might be able to do it with a placeholder tag, as I think they generate collision for bullets, but not for players. By placeholder I mean the tag type.
