Hi.

So I'm wondering if anyone knows of a technique or a tool which gains you the privilege of importing specific errors within a .wrl.

I.E

Say I want to import all the helper primitives which constitute open edges but not the helpers which map out where you may have coplanar surfaces, does a route or hax even exist?

(My reasons for asking are because when working with large & detailed bsps it's a huge inconvenience to sift through most of the wrl's import crap to find 2 or 3 orange planes which lead to overlapping surfaces)

I'm also wondering if there are any additional .jms exporters specifically apart from:

- Bluestreak > crated by the ghost
- Junglegym > created by sparkle

BTW I should mention that I'm looking for them to be compatible with 3dsmax 2014.

1 Last question why are there updates to the blitzkrieg exporter which are compatible with some versions of 3dsmax but not for other releases? (later versions LIKE MAX 2014!)

Do you think that different exporter wouldn't cause those errors? They all caused same errors as much as I tried myself. Try using STL check and xView to find errors before exporting the bsp.

The STL check is a huge waste of time seeing as tool likes to find errors even when the checker reports that there are really no errors.

BTW, Bluestreak is a little slow exporting i'd rather prefer a dle rather than a maxscript. They bootup and run faster.

You can open the wrl in notepad and if anything is color coded, you can find the color ones and delete the rest. Ie you need to find orange overlapping, so open the wrl and delete everything that doesnt give the color code for orange

Here's a maxscript which assigns WRL object names corresponding to error type:

I've found it very useful. You can customize it further to suit your needs.

tbh I hate using the wrl importer and stl check as both are useless. Just save, convert to editable poly, border tool, select all.

That'll usually get you any open edges. Fix said edges with either target weld or create face, then just convert back to mesh (or patch for pre-triangulation) and export. If you're getting overlapping edges then the WRL importer would help. Nearly coplanar I hardly ever cared about though because I made a lot of really thin surfaces.

Just to note, HEK has got it's way of showing you where errors are, such as wrl's, but keep in mind you can use anything available to find the open edges, google search "3ds max open edge finder", you might find other scripts or tools to help, your not constrained to HEK features.

But constrained to HEK errors, and many of them are created without reason by tool.

Well thank you all for your help.

> I got junglegym working. (Added service pack 5 to max 2014)

> The wrl importer created by bobby soon? Is very helpful.

And btw I'm trying not to sound like a know it all. But I really can work my way out of compilation errors, it's just finding them via the WRL helpers which is what flummoxes me.

Especially when the map isn't even mine. (I'll say no more on this matter)

Many thanks and salutations for your kind gracious posts!

U guyz.
