I recently bought a copy of Halo PC and downloaded Halo Custom Edition for multiplayer, but I have been having an issue since I first installed the game. Whenever I click on "Multiplayer" on the main menu, the game immediately crashes and displays an error message that says "Gathering Exception Data." Both Halo PC and Halo CE are up to date and the campaign works fine. Just the multiplayer is having issues. I completely uninstalled and reinstalled both games and patched them but that didn't help me.
I use a machine running Windows 8.1 with an AMD FX 4300, a Radeon HD 7770 2GDR5 by Asus and 8 GB of G Skill Sniper series RAM running at 1866 MHz.
I would really appreciate it if someone could help me with this issue.

Never encountered this, but since you only get it when you load the mp portion I would guess it's because it is trying to access the internet and is not allowed to.
Try running the game as admin.

It could be problem with your UI map. Are you using the default UI or a custom one? There may also be a map that is causing a problem.

Both are fresh installs with no custom UI or any custom maps installed. They are both up to date and I do not have HAC 2.

Check your firewall.
Make sure halo has permission from win 8's screwy UAC.

Halo PC, CE, and even CE dedicated server are allowed through the Windows firewall but it didn't help to resolve anything.

I think I had this problem before. Do you have a loader.dll in your controls folder? If so, remove it or rename it.

I installed HAC 2 (didn't delete the loader file in that) but it didn't seem to resolve the issue. I still get the same error when trying to go to multiplayer.

I think that it might have something to do with the patch. Reinstall Halo CE, and see if the multipler button works, (do not patch it when you install it!!!!). If it works, then copy the patch into you Halo CE Directory and then run it and see if it works ingame.

Hmmm. Are you running any background applications or antivirus software that may be causing problems? You may have a virus on your computer, which may be interfering with your Halo CE game. Do you have a legitimate copy of Halo CE, or an illegal version?

I purchased a boxed copy of Halo PC from Amazon a few days ago and I installed it yesterday. I scanned my computer the same day as well. I turned off almost all my background applications except for some drivers and Windows services.

Did you get Halo CE from Halomaps.org, or from another site? Are you sure that you have full access to all files on your computer? It could be the UI. Try and replace the default UI with a custom one, (make sure that you back up the original one).

Yes I downloaded Halo CE from Halomaps. I will try replacing the UI with another one.
EDIT: I downloaded and installed the Universal UI from Halomaps and made sure I have administrative permissions but, yet again to no avail. Edited by k3v1nr3nd0n on Apr 18, 2015 at 06:20 PM

Try downloading it off a different site. Make sure any firewall settings or antivirus, are not causing problems with your Halo CE game.

He did post his specs. You could try this method. (Dennis please do not happy slap me for saying this) Uninstall halo combat evolved and halo custom edition using this: http://www.revouninstaller.com/ Make sure to perform an advanced system scan so you can delete any remaining registry keys e.t.c Once everything has been uninstall prowl around your system folders and remove any left over folders or files: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition C:\Users\Ironman\Documents\Mygames\Halo Custom Edition C:\Program Data\ C:\Users\Ironman\Appdata\Roaming C:\Users\Ironman\Appdata\LocalLow Browse this folders for anything which you are absolutely sure is linked to halo ce or custom edition. Restart your pc. Then re-install halo custom edition only > Don't use the halo pc cd key > Browse for an illegal key on the web. (I'm not encouraging you to pirate, but this is an effective way to see if your cd key is at fault. If it isn't then un-install custom edition like a responsible pc user) After the setup completes install the 1.10 patch. And then try running multiplayer. > Now if it worked it means perhaps there is an issue with your cd key. (In which case un-install custom edition because you used an illegal means to get it working, then ask for a refund from amazon) If it didn't work then try installing halo comabat evolved and custom edition on another pc.
