I was trying to put ingame a different 3d bitmap for the energy shield (something more electric-looking, like the shielding of the seraph from Halo Reach), but whenever I try to compile it, Tool gives me this error. Have someone ever toyed with 3D bitmaps? And what does this error mean?

Your not supposed to use 3d bitmaps as a particle bitmaps
Use sprites instead. Edited by SS Flanker on Jan 25, 2015 at 06:35 AM

Make a shader_model tag for it; apply some values to the animation section of that tag.
EDIT: Oh, I just realized what you are saying. Try just duplicating and modifying the cyborg energy shield shader transparent plasma tag. (I think that's what it is.) Edited by sparky on Jan 25, 2015 at 09:57 PM It's not. I am not talking about the shader that uses such bitmap, I am talking about the bitmap itself; namely, characters\elite\bitmaps\elite shield noise.bitmap I tried to extract it, look at it and compile a new one, but tool says that it can't extract 3D textures without a valid plate, and I honestly don't know what does it mean. I think you need to add a blue background and put each part of the bitmap below like this

Especially if they're sprites. 1x1 blue border around the images worked for me.
