Hi Spartan_234 here, I started this topic to give your honest opinion of how both of these dangerous enemies function in combat and how they are a threat to others and themselves. Feel free to contribute :)

The flood is always confusing to me. Are we talking about the flood in the games, which have an infection form/spore that takes control of the host? Or the flood like in the Mona Lisa story?
It is stated that the flood is a threat to all 'sentient life'. I wouldn't consider a bacterial infection such as the necromorph to be sentient.
I think it comes down to: 'who can infect and control the most bodies'. Flood would have the advantage because they can use weapons, but I think necromorphs have the advantage up-close because of their bladed appendages. Necromorphs are simply unstoppable unless you shoot off their limbs.
In terms of infection overriding, that is too complicated to figure out.

It's true. But I just read halopedia and searched for the "gravemind" but reading through all that information was hard, although I learned a couple things.

In terms of infection overriding, that is too complicated to figure out. While I'm a fan of both the Flood and the Necromorphs... it's Flood>Necromorphs. All minds that have been infected by the flood have a connection to The Gravemind. So The Gravemind can control and has all the information from all the infected. Therefore the Gravemind has something like millions of minions. Also the Flood wants to infect all the galaxy so there would be only that specie left. It can create tactics and all that crap. Necromorphs... well, without that Dark Artifact or whatever its name was, they can't expand, nor can they be created. But they are deadly as you mentioned.

I've seen these before and you can't give a correct answer. You have to make up actual circumstances. What types of bodies are they taking over/infecting? How many people have the killed and taken over? Where is this taking place? Blah blah blah, you can't get a direct answer. (The flood has better odds because they can infect things with nervous systems, dead or alive, giving them an advantage over Necros, while Necros have extreme combat advantages, so idk)

Flood vs. Necromorphs, flood would wipe them out in no time because of their advancements over the years.

We can all agree that necromorphs are indeed the scariest though, right? Edited by MEGASEAN2812 on Aug 3, 2014 at 05:37 PM

If they were in real life, "then" they would be scary.

I only say that flood win because of weapon usage/retained knowledge/and a tactical gravemind. Necromorphs are basically brainless beasts, while the flood is a tactical monster. However, the necromorphs do not need the markers in order to flourish. The markers in Dead Space have different purposes, which gets really complicated. But we all know that 'The thing' would beat both necromorphs and the flood (an argument for another time).

The flood will win, necromorphs.... um no. You're right about them being brainless monsters. So on a scale of 1 to 10 the flood will win with some exceptions.

I don't think it should matter to us which one would win, because in a universe where they both existed we'd be completely fluffed and too busy kissing our hypothetical asses goodbye to ponder this query.
Necromorphs are scarier though, but I definitely think the flood has the potential to be scary, but bungie never played it out that way. Mona Lisa was a good example of their potential, though.

Indeed I enjoyed the Mona Lisa segment. But we wouldn't be completely fluffed, our bodies will either belong to the flood or necromorphs .

You are asking on a Halo forum, too. Where the majority casts their vote shouldn't be too surprising.

Necromorphs are scarier though, but I definitely think the flood has the potential to be scary, but bungie never played it out that way. The Flood has HUGE potential to be actually scary in games. They just need to add gore to the game. I mean, it was never scary to see the flood infecting dead people and seeing him transform. Also they never added animations to show how their hands or feet twist in a horror way. Attacks from the flood with their hands extensions were just pushing the AI a few meters away, they could make it so that when they do attack in that way, they cut enemies in two pieces. But then again, Halo was never meant to be a Horror game. I enjoy it as it is.

Well, when I first played 343 Guilty Spark I was scared. But yes, gore would really suit the flood. That being said I haven't actually seen a single gore mod in HCE.

(I also found a way to make the body parts spew a fountain of blood for about 20 seconds after gibbing, and it was completely by accident. It's awesome to see a grunt head just lying on the ground showering glowing blue blood everywhere) I agree though. I think Halo as a whole would benefit from some grittier violence.
