Hey guys, I know theres a whole lotta Halo: MCC and Halo 5 posts going on in the wake of the recent E3 announcements.

However, I did notice something interesting when watching the short trailer for Halo 5's Arena Multiplayer.

There seems to be a modified scopeless battle rifle in the beginning of the video, which is shown again a few seconds later. But this time, it's from a different angle.

This weapon looks almost exactly like the MA5K from the "Ghosts of Onyx" book, which was also remade by CMT for Halo Custom Edition years back.

What are your thoughts on this?

This is probably the only one that deserves it's own thread. I am guessing we can customize guns.. which I am not sure how I feel about. I doubt it's the actual MA5k.

Yeah, it looks like a Battle Rifle with some sort of red dot sight to me. There are some basic similarities to the MA5K, but I don't think that's what it is.

Nobody liked the amount of CoD, so they added even moar! Weapon attachments are the first reveal. Next, we will have (gasp) IRONSIGHTS!

Then the covenant will all go take a hike and the spartans will go back to fighting insurrectionists who look suspiciously like terrorists.

Because Call of Duty invented weapon attachments, and in the future, your weapon system should be incapable of adapting to any role outside of a specific niche, and should not have tried-and-true mechanical redundancies for electronic features.

"Insurrectionist" and "terrorist" are practically interchangeable, and the Insurrectionists of the Haloverse are known to have utilized suicide bombers against civilian targets.

A battle rifle is a select fire, magazine fed, military service rifle that fires a full-power rifle cartridge, such as 7.62x51mm NATO. While the designation of battle rifle is usually given to post-World War II select fire infantry rifles such as the FN FAL, the M14 and the H&K G3.[1] This term is also used to describe older military full-powered semi-automatic rifles such as the M1 Garand, the MAS-49 and the FN-49.

designated marksman rifle (DMR) is the weapon used by soldiers in the designated marksman (DM) role. The DM's role fills the gap between a regular infantryman and a sniper (typically being deployed at ranges of 250–500 metres or 270–550 yards) and DMRs have been developed with this middle ground in mind.
These rifles have to be effective, in terms of accuracy and terminal ballistics, at ranges exceeding those of ordinary assault rifles and battle rifles (typically 250 m or 270 yd or less, and up to 500 m or 550 yd, respectively) but do not require the extended range of a dedicated sniper rifle (typically employed for targets at ranges from 500–2,000 m or 550–2,190 yd).
DMRs, however, often share some basic characteristics with sniper rifles in difference to the weapons carried by others in the DMs unit. DMRs may have an attached telescopic sight, quickly deployed stabilizing bipod to allow optimized accuracy and low-recoil in temporarily fixed situations or an adjustable stock.

An assault rifle is a selective fire rifle that uses an intermediate cartridge and a detachable magazine.[1] Assault rifles are currently the standard service rifles in most modern armies. Examples of assault rifles include the StG 44, AK-47,[2] M16 rifle, INSAS rifle, QBZ-95, FAMAS, Heckler & Koch G36, and Enfield SA80.

tbh I don't think I'd mind. Always have been a fan of conflict between liberty and order, mostly because it's hard to pick a side. Even now it's hard to say whether the Empire's legions of armored, disciplined stormtroopers are more or less cool than the expert infiltrators of the Rebel Alliance.

With these rebels basically being the 26th century incarnation of the revolution for ideals of personal freedom and individual rights that birthed the US I think it will be interesting to see where the majority of Americans end up on the debate.

e: also pvtmike if you copy an excerpt wholesale do remember to cite ^^

im all for attachments. i like them in call of duty id like them in halo. also theres NO reason not to do them. also garunfreakenteeeee they are going to do stock "no attachments/armor abilities playlist" so that being said, both parties will be happy. "but thats not halo!" sure it is. also if i wanted to play halo 1, or 2, or 3, or 4, id play them on my console. if you want a new game your gonna get new changes. but im sure attachments are something they will not officially anounce till right before launch. just like how they didnt announce assassinations for halo 4 but everyone knew they were gonna happen. same for halo 5. you know its the direction games are going. attachments for the win!

Format your post, its like cancer to read!

Also im sick of seeing videos + threads saying its a new weapon... its just the Halo 4 BR with no scope... if it was a new weapon they would make it more unique and look different than the BR.

I'd actually be interested in a BR with no scope period. The interesting thing about H2 is that the br was never meant to be a 4 shot kill weapon when zoomed... that was something changed last minute.

TBH, I never understood why the Ar never had usable iron sights.
Where as the rest of the weapons, (or a majority of them did.

I think weapon upgrades are a little lame for halo, though logically if we have already suffered armor upgrades, we might have to suffer weapon attachments too.

I don't mind minimal stuff, like red dot sights. But suppressors, scopes, stocks e.t.c are too far for halo.

Canonically, the MA5-series has pop-up ironsights inside the cowling that wraps around the top of the ammo indicator.
