We'd lose HAC2/SAPP/OS/etc because Steam games are based off of SteamPipe, and has its own way of integrating mods. HAC2 would... possibly... set off VAC, and the servers would become SourceMod (hope you guys all know how to program!).

Why is it you neglect to mention that the same functionality could be replicated and distributed much easier with that system? That is to say, the features that aren't already there...map downloading, for example.

on the brighter side, the Petition has well over 12k Signatures now, and I've been putting it through to as many people as I can

Actually my original petition posts on both of 343i's forums are still there. I'm the one who started the petition in the first place, and I haven't had any of my posts be deleted yet. I've posted on both of the 343i forums, Steam, Bungie, Gearbox, Glu, HPT Forums, and a few other big forums not attached to a specific Halo company or group.

I've tweeted a lot of big management people and the respective companies authenticated Twitter accounts. I've also sent in support tickets to Steam and a few other websites that provided the option to send them in. It's been put on Facebook and sent to other certified Facebook accounts.

A petition is what gave us Patch 1.09 when the "Halo Boom" era was going on, and that program was made to crash halo servers with one click. Bungie saw our petition and gave us the patch.

It isn't a guarantee, but it is better than nothing.

The hell? This would not happen. IF Halo CE ever came to steam it'd likely function the same as the original with an almost identical file structure to keep all the original features intact. I don't think steam its self would really affect the game at all. After all Halo is not a Valve game.

The files found secretly in Steam correspond to Halo Combat Evolved, Halo 2 and Halo 3 not Custom Edition. If theres going to be a custom content would be on the Halo 3 game and engine so dont say nothing will change. BTW Steam made 3 official Halo 1, 2,3 groups. ANd they were created by steam not by users soo..... looking bright :)

Yeah, I seriously hope that if they port the game to Steam, they don't enable VAC, even if they use Valve's official servers. There are too many custom gametypes at this point that VAC would interfere with, plus Open Sauce, SAPP, and other server add-ons.

16 players is pretty hefty as it is, the maps would all need to be extinction/coldsnap sized to fit any more. But that's a different story altogether. Halo's base netcode wont change I assume

A 40 player cap would be just fine.

Or they could just set up a condition flag, so that you can only choose over 32 players or so if the map's over a certain bsp size.

I still have that fear that will just port halo PC, not CE. Even if ce gets ported i will still fear that my existing tags wont work and someone will have to make some conversion tool.

Why wouldn't they work? I don't see why it wouldn't be the exact same game, just available on a new medium.

Because the formats for the tags are completely different because gearbox ported it. And im pretty sure gearbox will have 0 involvement with this.

The only difference would be the master server's IP address and then they would recompile the exe, hell if they were smart they would just hex edit the exe. Just like EA did with all the different versions of Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 they made, the original version (of course), The First Decade version, C&C Complete Pack version, and the Origin Ultimate C&C Collection.
