I was thinking, its a long shot, but since Open Sauce extends the Halo CE engine's capabilities visually and in many other ways, would it allow for proper AI syncing for 2 or more player coop?

I think that's what mainly Kornmann is planning to do on his next OS update.

@altis94 So wait do the bipeds and Ai sync, correctly? Does it work well Online or only local? @AlekosGR I really hope you're right, was expecting Halo 2 to have vanilla coop support when my pc copy arrived on Friday, but it seems to be the same story as with Halo custom edition, very difficult to sync the ai

It works online, I tested it several times. The problem is that even with low ping AI keep teleporting and look laggy. I don't think even OS can fix that. Oh and here is a video I made a while ago http://zhtw.xfire.com/video/6169f3/

Looks fun, playable which is more than I can say for any I've tested so far. will check it out. Its pretty far from a Coop campaign but I've accepted that that's probably impossible in Hce. Flood survival coop should be fun, looks very buggy at the moment in the video. Thanks Altis :)

I don't really understand why nobody tried making a real coop map using stuff from those maps :\

It's kinda tricky, IIRC you have to name bipeds, assign AI to them, and then constantly attach/detach vehicles. Then when they die, whisk them away to be respawned again elsewhere. If you were to make a campaign, I think the max limit is 50 (50 AI+50 Vehicles).
So let's say you used 30 to make sure nothing crashes if a max object limit was reached, you have to constantly move dead bipeds and vehicles off the map, then teleport them ahead of the player into the new encounters. Now let's say a player runs straight through an area without killing any of the AI, and the other player stays behind shooting them. Your scripts would have to know which bipeds are being used at all times, and then divert and use other ones.
It's just a lot of "what if the player does this" that can cause it to malfunction.
And if I had to guess, they're laggy even on low pings because they're being attached/detached constantly. So what you're seeing as laggy teleporting is actually just the time inbetween the vehicle being attached to the AI, then detached and syncing for the players.

Hope someone does get a team together and make a proper coop map, maybe a firefight map with flood and reach tags?

I think it would be cool to make something like a horror map where AI would be invisible but they would create particles, something like black smoke. That way teleportation wouldn't be visible. Edited by altis94 on Mar 2, 2014 at 03:54 PM

@InigoMontoya I read about that somewhere, I guess thats why in the Zombies map they're locked in a room to cut down variables. I'm really annoyed that they didnt just keep the coop code in from the xbox version when they ported it over :/ It seems in h2 vista the coop script is still intact, hence why there's a relatively playable coop campaign mod. Thanks for the insight :)
@altis94 Sounds like a cool Idea, just would probvably have to be in an enclosed space. tldr: Does smoke work in CE standard or only with OS? Edited by Calibyrnes on Mar 2, 2014 at 04:07 PM Edited by Calibyrnes on Mar 2, 2014 at 04:14 PM

Awesome, haven't seen much smoke in ce maps, is it a bit spec hungry? I can imagine framerate taking a hit with a lot of smoke, guess that's true with too much of anything.
