does anyone know how cmt got their fp arms to have a shield hit shader when damaged? id like to figure out how to redo this myself.

Not 100% sure but just a quick look around i thought, Shield Depletion Effect/Particles?

where would i go to modify this? the fp arms are just a gboxmodel in the globals...?

You need to edit the model so there is a mesh around the arms with the shield shader_transparent_plasma applied to it. If you use a different shader, then you need to make sure its functions are set up the same as the one that is applied to 3p.
