I updated the original post with some important info.

I tried to help. He just spammed me with calls and told me to do everything. Actually, he didn't even tell me much. He just talks about jack sh*** and not the project. I'm done with Blood Creek.

True

As I told him, the whole campus BSP must be redone from scratch. Itīs a freakin plane.

Plane or not, all his previous modellers seem to have disappeared, so I think at this point, it's more realistic to try to get someone who's willing to finish up what he's got, as opposed to trying to find someone who would be willing to completely remake everything for him.

if you redo blood creek, you better add another big area and keep that rotating day/night time effect

Not much has happened since late 2009.

We'll be keeping the Day-ZNight system. In fact, we'll be improving upon it signifficantly with Open Sauce. With Open Sauce, we'll have tons to show.

128 BSP Lightmaps for Day
128 BSP Lightmaps for Night
2 BSPs total, one for each.

All lightmaps will be baked, not just generated by Tool.

There might even be a weather system, if we can get it moving and off the ground.

No offense, but this looks pretty boring, and well... bad. I don't like putting down people's works, but the truth is I doubt anyone will want to devote their time to something that doesn't interest them or is worthy of their hard work and time. What about this map should interest people they are willing to put hours of work into? If nothing has happened to this map in 5 years, I am guessing there is not much. Perhaps there are some good ideas and concepts for your project, but the BSP looks like it has nothing interesting going for it gameplay wise.

I was/am working on blood creek. Rambo claimed to have given it down to me and then constantly kept saying that he's back and he's taking it back. I had plans to revamp and clean everything up but I guess when I told Rambo to keep the pr to me, he felt making sure people don't want to help was more important than getting the project done. -shrug-

I'll get xfire logs if anybody wants to see em.

Well last time I was really in the map was during CE3 2010 and 11, and to be honest it doesn't look like anything has changed.

4+ years with nothing visible done is pretty bad. Maybe it's time to just release the source files and see who grabs.

Probz cuz every texture is 4k and every piece of scenery is in the bsp.

Apparently upscaling normal textures magically makes them show more detail. Look what he did to the cod4 arms textures, those are 4x larger than they need to be, and those were just up sized.

If you want to quickly increase normal map depth, open it photoshop, select the blue channel, and use levels to increase the shadow/black levels.

Increasing the size of the texture won't do anything if it was rendered at a lower texture, certainly wont increase detail, and will just take up much more memory.

4K should be used on huge surfaces, not such things as FP arms.

Also, detail maps.

There's really not a need to ever really go up to a 4k texture honestly. Even for a ground map, like one rendered out from World Machine or something similar, it'll retain the detail you want at 2048 just fine since you'll also be using (in Halo) detail maps or (in cry/udk/etc) layer painting. Even if you were to hand paint a large texture map, you could still put in enough detail for a very large map.

The only time I could see a texture like that being used is for something like Skyrims terrain, which is also broken up into multiple pieces, given mipmaps and all that to increase optimization and performance as much as possible.

You gotta realize that you have to load up that single texture into memory, and the bigger they are, more memory they have. Lower loading times isn't something you want exactly. Even by 2048, its getting reasonably large.

As for detail maps, the "recommended" maximum size, even by Crytek, is a max of 512, which is honestly resonable enough and holds alot more detail.

Rather than simply increasing texture resolutions whenever you need more detail, you should really be relying on the engines shaders and other manipulation to create more detail. Normals, Specular, Tesselation, detail normal maps, you name it. There are ways to make a small texture beautiful.

I'll leave you guys with this: http://www.unrealengine.com/showcase/udk/amazing_one_texture_environment/

I actually meant skyrim-sized with huge.

I believe you can have some 1024 detail maps. Won't really make a difference if you have a 512 bitmap with a microdetail map.

You can, the point is that for increased performance on a wide ranger of computers (not everyone may have a good computer) and efficiently drawing less memory and less draw calls to the gpu, they should be smaller. 512 will give you more than enough detail to work with and be more efficient.

Since you guys are tired of Rambo as it is already. You guys COULD come to me seeing as he "officially" handed the project down to me. I have all the files and I still have some intention of fixing the map to be atleast decent.

I'm also not half blind nor to I intend to spam everybody constantly. Though I would appreciate some talented BSP artists to come provide assistance :x

Yes it does sound that way, but as I said, Rambo himself claimed that the project is now completely under my care. I'm willing to continue the project, and unlike Rambo, I'm not one to spam people about getting stuff.

Also while talking to Eliteslasher and OpsY, they complained that Rambo's.....visual impairment....had caused issue because he would mess up constantly and was unable to see the multitudes of issues that plagued the map. They both agreed to provide assistance should I officially take the lead and ask them to provide some.

A map that is this old.. Why don't you just give up and do something new and creative.? It will just end up more messy than before.
