I don´t want to leave this project as the others because of the limits of the engine, but now Im working on something nice.

For those who don´t know this place, is the abandoned city of pripyat, after the chernobyl disaster in 1986 this city was abandoned due to the radiation exposure, the city is unhabitable because of radiation and I´ve been thinking it would be great to bring this place to CE.

Now, I want to MAKE THE WHOLE CITY! You´ll have the option to explore every single building of the town to survive from the zombies. ¿Does CE would allow me to do that? The map will be MP of course, because MP sounds more fun.

If not, Im just thinking to make the city center only. ¿What do you think guys? Oh and I have a question because I don´t want to make another thread, ¿Does Halo supports parallax mapping? Thanks

I don't really wanna be that guy that bursts people's bubbles, but... making a zombie mp map, to my knowledge, is impossible.
AI doesn't sync online. (Well you can get it to work, just not the way you envision it.)

Around 30k. Halo can't handle having more than 10k tris of BSP on screen at one time, so for outdoor maps especially you got to keep that in mind.


If you're build the entire city, it's gonna have to be either really low resolution or... I dunno, something will have to be thought up.

Also looking at your join date you're new.

You should get use to the engine and tools more. And I do not believe halo supports paralex mapping

If you don't add much detail, sure, you should be able to make it one BSP... But, it would still be highly recommended to make it multiple BSPs, which isnt for MP.


Anyways, making a map that large isn't optimal for syncing AI in the first place; if you do method A, you should probably stop around 30 AI to ensure players can respawn (you can get to about 50 without worrying about unit caps). If you use method B, you don't need to worry about the unit cap, however it seems to take a significantly larger toll on network communications; While 50 could work ok, you still want to keep it as low as possible (If the network toll gets too large, the clients will be unable to move (If they where pressing forwards when it occurred, they'll be continuing to move forward on the host, but the client wont even be informed of that; the player bipeds will fall out of sync, while the rest of the data is still being transferred correctly))

Anyways, does ~50 AI sound that threatening for an entire city regardless?..... If it was a coop campaign, when the zombies where focused around the current objective, then sure, it could be fine.

First, Im not new. I created this account because the pass recovery system is not working, so I created this new account.

I didn´t know about the AI sync, I only knew about the BSP are not syncing in MP, that´s why I wanted to create only a BSP. I think Im going to do only the center square, because 50 zombies is ok for the center, but for the full city, I think I should get 300 zombies on the whole city and I don´t think Halo can handle that.

I don´t like to make maps at low-detail and "empty" this map will have a lot of scenery objects, and yes Im going to use triggers to optimize the map.

I´ve seen the advantages of making in SP, SP gives me more placement and options, I think im going to release 2 maps, one MP with AIs and one SP with AI allies

OS. BSP Poly limit goes through the roof, so you could technically make it all one BSP using OS so long as you portal it well enough :x
