Yeah because atm I suck at 3d modeling but am willing to learn. My high school class I was taking to further develop my skills was cancelled but I still wish to pursue my goal of being the best I can be. So if anyone has any tips, tutorials or ideas please send them this way.

Just practise. I've been at it for years now and I still haven't got to a point where I'd be happy with what I put out.

Watch tutorials, make your own stuff, practice, and be creative. All you need. You wont become amazing over night, I've been doing this stuff for a long time and I still learn new things every day. It's alot of fun though, if you really want to get good post your work over at Polycount, the people there are amazing and give great crit (you wont find that here most of the time).

Practice until you hate it and don't want to do it anymore. Oh wait, that's what happened to me and I'm still not any good ;_;

And I don't see how Blender is any better for beginners than, say, 3ds Max or Maya.

If you want to actually get good, start with the good tools, like 3ds max. At the very least, Gmax or a student copy of 3ds max.
