My monitor EDID's broken(It's second-hand, I don't know how it broke). Thus my PC has no clue what resolution it's supposed to run at.

Fortunately however, I've been able to manually override the EDID through the Nvidia Control Panel's custom resolutions menu.

Unfortunately, it seems some games, such as Halo, won't accept my custom resolution(of 1600x900 at 60hz).

I've been able to get around this with most games by forcing the games to run in windowed at 1600x900 and then using a borderless tool.

Unfortunately, though most games will accept this workaround, Halo appears to be refusing to run in any resolution higher than 1280x800 at 60hz in windowed mode.(It does allow 1360x768 and 1366x768, but capped at 30hz)

I was just wondering if anyone knows of a way to force Halo to stop being fussy and run at 1600x900 at 60hz in windowed mode. I have tried -windowed -vidmode 1600,900,60 as a target command line. However, it appears to default to 800x600 every time I run the game.(Though it will run in windowed, and the borderless tool does work at this res, albeit pushed into the corner of the screen)

Basically, am I missing a different command line, rather than vidmode, which should instead be used alongside -windowed, or is it impossible to force custom resolutions in windowed?

have you tried using OS?

Yes, I always use OS.

Unfortunately, with or without OS:
In full screen, past 1280x800, I can only run any other res at a cap of 30hz.
In windowed, past 1280x800, I can only run 1360x768 or 1366x768 at a cap of 30hz.

I forgot to mention that I have tried running the game in full screen with -vidmode 1600,900,60. However, the game gets confused and the screen simply flashes several times until the game simply moves over to my other monitor.

You might be a different person but why not ask.

Jaz have you been on a Halo CE server and have seen a player with the name of <<{HT}Skiff>>
by any chance?

Why?

@Jaz, You can go into "-window" mode then either,

a. Set the resolution in-game to adjust the size.

Or...

b. Click and drag the edges of the window to adjust the size.

-(and dragging the window by the top bar, if the window extends below the bottom of the screen)

-That's my take on this.
(Hope I helped?)

Nevermind. Couldn't find a solution and a few other games were having the same problem, so I figured I'd just take the risky route, i.e. modifying the EDID.

Turned out it worked out fine so Halo now recognises my monitor's native res as 1600x900, which is great.(Although the Nvidia Control Panel now thinks my monitor's on DVI, but oh well...)
