IIRC, you need w8 pro in order to "downgrade" to windows 7. And wouldn't you still need a valid registration key to install w7?

Windows 8.1 just seems to be broken atm.
I assume Halo worked fine for you on Windows 8 before? (As it did for me, like everything else)
I upgraded to Windows 8.1 a few days ago, after having barely any issues with Windows 8. Now, I'm getting a ridiculous amount of driver glitches, games are randomly refusing to launch, and one of my 16GB usb drives isn't being recognised at all.(a drive which works fine everywhere else)
If you did backup and you can downgrade, it might be a good idea to just do so, at least for now, until MS starts fixing everything that's wrong with Windows 8.1.

there is a reason they call it a clean install and a reason a clean install is always better.
and for anyone who didnt know you may have upgraded your gfx driver at the same time. Nvidia pushed there new update out on sep13
ovioudly reinstalling one of your games would probly allow it to launch just fine. I run my halo ce under windows 8 in compatibility mode. as admin. there have been improvments to the system softwhere oviouly configurations have changed in orter for there to be improvments most of the changes are under the hood anyway aside from the difrences in the start menu.
I would not think anythang is broken at all. computers dont make mistakes people do. Edited by jackrabbit on Oct 26, 2013 at 12:23 PM

The best solution to any Windows 8 problem is to install Windows 7.

With any Windows OS, if you just install onto the existing partition without formatting, your files will all stay, its just essentially tossed in the windows.old folder. I don't remember whether the program files folders are tossed in there too, but your users and windows folders at the very least are (I myself never use this option; I just toss what I want to keep on an external hard drive, then purge the computer lol)
