1. Create a 15 frame animation of the gun in the "aim down sights" position

2. Export animation as "fire-2.jmm" (without quotes) and place it in weapons/<your weapon>/animations

3. Compile your animations with "tool animations weapons/<your weapon>"

4. Open your .weapon file and check "secondary trigger overrides grenades"

5. Scroll down to "triggers" and create a secondary trigger

6. Set rounds per second to 30 and leave the rest of the options alone.

7. Save and close your .weapon tag and place the weapon in a map

Your done! Holding right click should bring up your sights. If you have any questions or if something doesn't work quite right don't hesitate to ask.

Not sure exactly what you mean by that. If you are wanting to use the default zoom key to activate your sights you cannot (unless you just use a bitmap like a silhouette of the sights, but that method looks painfully bad for iron sights.)

Ha, my bad.

But is what I said possible? The method looks pretty funky without an accompanying zoom or movement debuff. Scripts, maybe?

Well if you are just looking down the iron sights than it is unrealistic to make it zoom although I do see the potential benefit of such a thing in gameplay.

Unfortunately it seems impossible to me, but I am not an expert on scripting. Maybe you could ask kirby, he seems to enjoy accomplishing the impossible.

wouldnt this be the same as having a scope on your weapon?

i mean if i model out a scope and attach it to the weapon how would i make the image in the scope a magnification of what your looking at?

Not really, scopes in Halo are done using a bitmap. Basically the game hides your first person objects (arms and gun) and places a bitmap in front of your screen (of the crosshairs) and then it zooms you in however much you tell it too in guerilla. So technically the model of the scope has nothing to do with what you actually see when you zoom in. The only way to use this with iron sights would be to use a bitmap of the iron sights (like I mentioned before).

The iron sights that I do on the other hand are actually what you see when your gun moves up in front of your view. It is simply an animation and therefore there can be no zoom. (Halo was never really designed for iron sights, we are really re-purposing a secondary fire mode)

(this does not apply for all games, but this is how Halo does it)
